We had the good fortune of connecting with Jevelle Holt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jevelle, how do you think about risk?
Risks are beneficial to growth which leads to new opportunities and boosting confidence in your abilities. It also helps improve creativity. I have learned that the worst that can happen is if I try, I may fail but if I never try, I will never know what I can truly accomplish. They both present opportunities to grow.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Sweet Tooth Velle is a southern style, fashion influenced bakery that offers regular and vegan cakes, cupcakes, teacakes, and cookies. All items are made from scratch and made to order using fresh ingredients. I am excited about not only providing great products but also excellent customer service and communication to customers. Initially, I thought the primary focus was on baking but I have learned to also focus on the business part of it (accounting, marketing, budgeting, etc). In addition, I stopped looking at what others have created and comparing theirs to mine. Comparison is the thief of joy and I want others to see and taste the joy I have when creating my baked goods. I want people to know that they are not only getting a great tasting product but they are also getting a great experience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where we’d eat: Heroes Lounge, Ocha Thai, Bam’s Vegan, Shells and Tails 2 Geaux, Lucky’s Hot Chicken, Andalous Mediterranean Grill, Cakebar and Mimi’s Cafe Drink: Blends Daiquiri Lounge, Gloria’s and 3D Daiquiri Bar and Grill Visit: Dallas Museum of Art, African American Museum of Dallas, Klyde Warren Park, Andretti Indoor Karting & Games
Anything is subject to change depending on conditions and final decisions
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a few people I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to. I’d like to shoutout: God for always being there and having my back; my mama for always boosting me up when I’m hard on myself; and other cake ladies and gentlemen who have given me advice and insight.
