We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica & Brian Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica & Brian, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
We wouldn’t be where we are today without taking risks. When we moved from Southern California to the DFW area after spending all of our savings on a backpacking trip around Europe, that was a crazy risk. In the beginning of Tesoro Jewelry, we purchased a ton of equipment, not totally sure how to assemble or operate. Every time we start a new project or work with new metals, we never know how it will work out. Each of these risks were scary in one way or another but they were cornerstones in building our business.
Please tell us more about your business. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
We make personalized hand stamped/engraved jewelry. This year will be our 10 year anniversary. It has been a crazy decade but really does not seem that long. We’ve had a lot of challenges: fluctuating trends, changing online platforms, reworking pieces, balancing work and our marriage, balancing work and children, and now Covid19. We worked through them together, taking it one day at a time. Right now, with Covid19, many weddings have been put on hold. I miss working with my brides (and grooms) and can’t wait to start creating pieces again for their big days.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
We love Downtown McKinney and enjoy hanging out at Arcade92, eating at Harvest, Rye, or the Yard, grabbing some snacks from Mom & Popcorn, or just walking around. Oh, and we’d stay at the Neathery Estate Bed and Breakfast so we could be close to the square and lounge by their pool.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom, or as she is affectionately called by our kids, Gaga. She has been a huge help. She prepares packaging material and once or twice a week, watches our boys so we can both work for a couple hours during the day. We couldn’t do it without her. We are inspired by the artistic communities in and around DFW. We look forward to every show we do with Etsy Dallas, The Dime in Denton, or FleaStyle. Everyone is so talented and encouraging and we love seeing what’s new in their lives and art.
