We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenn, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I made the decision to follow my gut instinct and leave my successful career in fashion to pursue a career in health, wellness, and beauty. While fashion isn’t a far cry from the beauty industry, I wanted to build something that came from a place of love and integrity. To build a beauty brand that is based on heart and soul, not just outer aesthetic. I began to take my own knowledge of herbs, ritual, and self care and apply it to a beauty and skincare brand that encompasses the whole being; mind, body, and soul.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been drawn to the artistic and more right brain activities. I come from a family of left brain thinkers, engineers and doctors. I always felt a little out of place. I would dream up projects and create story boards, write scripts, and make body scrubs out of whatever I could get my hands on. When it comes to beauty and skincare, I’ve created my own products ever since I can remember. I would use the ingredients in my kitchen and herbs from our garden to create lotions and bath salts because that’s what I had access to. This was before Sephora and the internet and there were little options in my small Texas town . I created ZENJENN out of a complete love for natural and holistic skincare made from Mother Earth’s elements. I create products that not only assist with physical beauty, but are better for the environment, smell lovely, feel luxurious, and give a person that mindful moment to enjoy taking care of themselves. ZENJENN is about the ritual and experience of self-care.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely take a day trip Bishop Arts. Eat at Tribal All Day Cafe, shop at Beatnik and Magic Hour and spend the rest of the day wondering in and out of all of the cool shops there! Then we would spend another afternoon at Breathe Meditation and Wellness to take a meditation class and try out the Crystal Bed and Salt Therapy (my favorite)! We would have lunches at True Food and Flower Child. Dinners at Local (the best fine dining restaurant in Dallas), brunch at The Rustic, and a trip to the Arboretum and Botanical Garden.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people, places, and things that contribute to my story. Meeting and learning about people is how I move through this world and grow as an individual. If I had to pin point one person, it would have to be my husband. He is the person who always believes in me no matter how wild my ideas are. He is a steady rock in my river of a world. I tend to blow where the wind takes me when it comes to ideas, places I want to live, hobbies I want to pick up, you get the idea… he is always there to cheer me on and assure me I am capable of anything.
