We had the good fortune of connecting with Javier Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Javier, what do you attribute your success to?
Oh, this is easy to answer. The most important factor behind my success and anything that I do in life is putting my faith in God. Over the years I’ve learned that putting my faith in God has led to my success, peace, and understanding of what really matters in life. Success is measured very differently for people I think. I USED to measure success by how much money was coming in every month, how many clients I was booking, whether I had the best equipment or not, and even how popular I was becoming in my field. I’ve been doing this for almost 12 years now and all those things have some importance but no longer hold the top spot in my success. Serving people and sharing my talent with others really gives me a lot of satisfaction and is another part of the factor behind my brand’s success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my career early on in the fashion world and was focused on becoming a name in the industry. I adored the clothing and the way I was able to get together with awesome teams of other creatives to make the art of the clothing come alive. I got a taste of the fast-paced life in New York and how the industry worked. I was blessed with having my work published in publications and got to work with some very talented designers, makeup artists, stylists, and hairstylists. I have tried a lot of different types of photography throughout the years and I feel that that has shaped me into the photographer I am today. I’ve learned a lot of techniques in lighting, posing, and post-processing my work to achieve the specific look and mood that I want. It has always been a difficult industry to be in and has made me learn to put my faith in God and not in other people or even myself. This industry can be very fickle and one moment you’re in and another moment you’re old news haha. This has also taught me to continue to innovate and learn more of my craft. I’ve really transitioned more into the advertising and commercial world with a lot of fine art portraiture as well! I love to create and my clients book me time and time again for my creativity and understanding of light. One BIG lesson I learned early on and refined over the years is Photography relies hugely on lighting. Mastering lighting allows me to create moods, shoot at any time of the day, and highlight parts of a photo as I see fit. I want the world to know that the passion for my work is what drives my creativity! I want you to look at your images and say WOW! I’ve also had the honor of becoming a Fort Worth Camera Ambassador this year!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
haha this is a hard one because our metroplex is full of incredible places! Being Hispanic, I would naturally need to show them the best Mexican food spots first! Taco Chon in Haltom city for their incredible Burritos de Barbacoa, Babe’s Chicken for some delicious fried chicken, Velo Cafe for some awesome coffee (try the Javie Special LoL ) and gotta have some good BBQ of course, at Heim Barbecue!! Of course, can’t come to the metroplex without catching the famous Fort Worth Zoo, Dallas Botanical Gardens, The World Aquarium, and Beautiful Sundance Square in Fort Worth for some fun! The Stockyards never disappoints for some good ol fashion Cowboy goodness!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That would definitely have to be my wife! She is an incredible woman and has been my biggest supporter throughout my career! Many times she’s been the source of wisdom and has helped me make important business decisions. Her encouragement keeps me lifted during times of stress and when I’m feeling down.
