We had the good fortune of connecting with Jane Winchester Paradis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jane, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
In 2017, I went to the Women’s March in Washington DC with my two daughters and I realized that, while I LOVED my corporate job, I had been there 11 years and I wanted to build something. I wanted to create something from scratch, something original that connected with women…and I wanted my kids so see me do it (and help!).

I knew I wanted there to be meaning behind each piece. I knew some of the words I would use. I knew that I would make everything feel very special, from the quality of the coin to the beautiful packaging. I knew that it would be a company that is predominately online so I could build a relationship with people across the country.

I started playing with the list of words we would bring to life. I drew the first coins on a trip to Italy. I worked with a caster on Philly’s jewelry row to create the samples. We had a launch party in December 2018 where ALL my friends showed up for me and our entire family worked together at the event to talk about the collection – of only 8 coins at that time.
I launched the company because I wanted to be a role model for my own kids – so they could see someone build something from scratch. Many ask – why coin jewelry? I was inspired by the Roma people in Europe circa 1900 and their coin jewelry. These nomads created jewelry from their money. It was meant for more than adornment; it was a decorative method of transporting their wealth. They showed off what they had with their jewelry. I realized that my own wealth is based on life experiences rather than my finances. I wanted to ‘show off’ these milestone moments that make us who we are. The coins allow us to mark an occasion and also have something to hold on to – a physical reminder of a memory or event.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am so proud of Jane Win’s core values. We started the company day ONE with a foundation of values that we hold really close – that I think about daily as we grow. If it’s ok I’ll just list them all because even though they are in order, together they make essence of who we are…

We make beautiful things that embody strength and positivity.

We are not afraid to be ourselves. We are happy, have fun and celebrate a little irreverence.

We are humble. We embrace individuality. We treat everyone (customers, employees and vendors) with respect. We take the time to do things right.

We run a modern, visionary business. We create and adapt innovative strategies to build a strong company that delivers a special experience to our consumers. We surpass expectations.

We share. When the company succeeds, we share in our good fortune.

Our team is a group of dynamic, funny, down-to-earth people that I love working with every day. I think we are very goal oriented and we are straight shooters. We spend the time writing our yearly business plan and sales goals – and we do that as a team so we are all invested in the success. When things don’t go our way we recognize it, we talk about it and learn from it…and then we move on. You have to make mistakes – if we aren’t making mistakes then we aren’t trying enough stuff. I actually love mistakes; I love when things are a challenge – when you really have to work for it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my gosh I love this question! I have to say that Highland Park Village is where I work AND play. If I am hosting in Dallas, we start with a walk on SMU’s stunning campus and then straight to Sadelle’s for a bite. I could spend hours shopping at MARKET (where you can shop Jane Win and so many other fabulous lines). I always take a peek at LA LIGNE NYC right next door to Market- best sweaters and dresses that you will want to wear every single day. Then we have a late lunch and if I am being honest, an afternoon cocktail, next door at Honor Bar. In the evening, a slow dinner at Park House. Rose and ranch water required.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out Market in Highland Park Village! They have been such lovely partners to Jane Win in the Dallas market. We just spent SMU parents weekend with them celebrating our Infinity Collection of permanent jewelry and it was such fun. We can’t wait to come back to Market for a holiday shopping event December 8.
