We had the good fortune of connecting with Hunter Hathcoat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hunter, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important thing to me as an artist is to write songs and create a sound that I can hang my hat on and that people enjoy listening to. As an original band, we have to do that to be successful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been playing gigs pretty much every weekend now for 8 years. It’s been a long road to figure out exactly what we’re doing. From the start, the only route I set for myself was to be an original artist. Thats been hard in a world full of cover bands. Over those tough grinding years, we began finding our sound.

We coin our sound as “Country-ish Music”, which is also the name of our last album. What we mean by that is that the songs sound country just because thats where we’re from, but to us they’re just songs. Others have described our catalog as country with a hint of southern rock.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started this gig playing at a Mexican restaurant in my hometown. Then on to a couple little bar and grills and so on. I’d say those first friends and family that came out to those gigs are still some of my biggest supporters today. On the other hand, It’s a great feeling of support to see strangers show up to shows and know the words to our songs.
