We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi McBain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heidi, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I think it’s been consistency. I have a lot of systems in place on the back end of my business to help keep things flowing on the front end. I write a blog every week, which can be either new content or repurposing old content. I also create seven social medias posts a week for my facebook, instagram and threads pages. When a new client contacts me for therapy or coaching, I have an initial email or text I send before setting up a phone consult. I also have a phone intake I use, so I don’t forget to ask potential clients important questions before starting our work together. I think having a structured plan in place has been very helpful!

What should our readers know about your business?
Although I’ve worked with couples, families, children and teens in the past, I now focus exclusively on mental wellness for moms and moms-to-be. I was in a first cohort of therapists to get my PMH-C (Perinatal Mental Health Certification) from Postpartum Support International (PSI) in Texas. I see woman in my practice at any stage of motherhood, from trying to get pregnant, to pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’ve very outdoorsy, so weather permitting, we’d go to one of the local lakes like Grapevine or Lewisville. We also love the different events The Gaylord offers (especially at the holidays!) along with Pinstack and The Moviehouse.

The food is SO good locally too:
Breakfast: Egg Farm Cafe or Morning Edition (and they have gluten free options too!)
Lunch: Luna Grill, Cava, Salata
Dinner: Verf’s, Tsunami Sushi, Yummy Thai
Coffee: 151, Dutch Bros

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a close friend from graduate school, Laura Carr, who has been my accountability buddy on my journey into private practice. We started by setting up weekly zoom calls to talk about what we each wanted and needed to accomplish businesswise in the upcoming week. Over the years these structured zoom calls have become less structured polo videos, which has been a fun way to stay in touch, both personally and professionally. I am so grateful to have Laura in my life today!
