We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Leis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heidi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My company started out of my house in San Diego. I was always in search of a bikini that fit well, so with the help of my mother I designed a a few styles. Eventually I begin making swimwear for my friends and it grew from there. I officially launched Leis Swim in 2019.

What should our readers know about your business?
Leis Swim is an online swimwear and beachwear boutique, we are all about celebrating women in all stages of womanhood, I like to think we have a little something for everyone. I started creating custom swimwear at the age of 19 due to the lack of quality bikinis that fit my body type. We are proudly female owned and operated. With every collection we move towards being a more sustainable brand, I am proud to say 60% of our fabrics used are made from consumer plastic removed from our Oceans.
Starting a business is definitely full of challenges but for me just staying consistent and true to myself has paid off.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Bishop Arts is my favorite area in Dallas. I love the community and the intimacy of Bishop Arts. Also a favorite spot of mine is Beto and Sons, the carajillo is my absolute favorite drink!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother is my biggest influence and motivator, she has always pushed me to go courageously after my goals. She taught me everything I know about designing and creating beautiful clothes. She instilled in me a strong work ethic and to always be kind and pay it forward. I am also blessed to be surrounded by an incredible group of women who have mentored me through the process of starting my business. Being self motivated is important but having guidance along the way is what pushes you to the next level.
