We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Halliday and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Being a parent is one of the hardest but also most rewarding jobs a person can have. My children are still young, 8, 10 and 12 so every day I am learning how to be the best parent I can be. The challenges are always changing.

As for the most important thing I’ve done so far as a parent? To me, it is definitely being present in their lives. Making myself available and staying active in their lives. Attending their extracurricular activities, volunteering at their school, watching them do something silly when they say “Hey mom, hey mom, look at me!” Carving time out for each one of them and making the moments count. And always supporting and encouraging them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our company, Modern Whimsy Luxury Picnics & Event Co., provides our clients with a one-of-a-kind, unique, and stand-out celebration. We specialize in full-service luxury picnic set-ups but also help with general event planning as well.

The luxury picnic trend really took off during the pandemic when gathering outside and in small groups was preferred. While the “insta” worthy luxury picnic trend continues, we are now hosting larger picnic parties up to 24 guests.

While my background is in Interior Design & Hospitality, over the years I have discovered that event planning is something that really brings me joy. The creative outlet it provides me, and the opportunity to work with clients to making their celebrations one to remember is really special.

Attention to detail, understanding our client’s vision, going above and beyond, good communication, and being reliable really set us apart from others. We want our clients to have a stress-free planning experience and truly enjoy their time with friends and family at their special event.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The DFW metroplex has so many amazing places to visit! We spend time entertaining visiting family and friends in Grapevine, Ft. Worth and Dallas. They all have something unique to offer. Most of the places we visit are kid centered, as we have three kids of our own.

Some of our favorites in Grapevine are, the lake! Renting a boat and spending a day on the water is a blast. There is also a pretty hiking trail. Then head over to Main St. The old charm of Main St. and fun, unique shops are really special. Esparza’s Mexican Restaurant is delish.

Dallas provides plenty of entertainment at the Perot Museum, Klyde Warren Park or the Dallas Arboretum. Roy Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden at the Arboretum is spectacular, and we highly recommend! The Rustic in Deep Elum hits the spot after a long day in Dallas.

Ft. Worth is really where we spend most of our time. The Ft. Worth Zoo is hands downs the best in the country. To get into the true Texas spirit, a visit the Stockyards is a must. The cattle drive is a must see. Magnolia Street in the Fairmont Historic District is up and coming and full of delicious restaurant choices, we love HEIM barbecue, Fixture Kitchen & Social (best chicken and waffles ever!) and then a trip to MELT ice cream for dessert.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Starting your own business is not for the faint of heart. While it is incredibly exciting to be your own boss, it also comes with a lot of lessons in time management, marketing, business planning, budgeting, communication and sales. I am incredibly thankful that I have the support of my husband, family and friends who want to see me be successful. They are the true inspiration that keeps me working hard and moving forward.
