We had the good fortune of connecting with Faith Keller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Faith, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I would say one of the contributing factors to me picking an artistic career would have to be the fact that I couldn’t imagine myself sitting behind a desk at a normal 9-5 job. I wanted to be able to have flexible hours and schedule. But most importantly my creativity flows from my heart. I pour my heart into every makeup look I do. I love seeing my clients smile when I hand them the mirror, it makes all the hard work worth it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started as a self taught artist and then eventually I went to school to perfect my skills, I was top of my class in hair styling, body painting/airbrush, and special effects. I think what sets me apart is the fact that I’m so versatile. Need prom makeup? Done. Need a sick Halloween look? Done. Need a full body paint?
No problem. It wasn’t easy to get where I am today. I had people doubt my skills and if I could make a living in this industry, it hurts when people criticize your work or think you won’t make it. But you have to keep your head up push through and put everything you have into your artistry to prove them wrong.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take them to lonesome spur in my home town, it’s a breakfast and lunch place and it’s so good! Awesome waffles and pancakes! Maybe the Perot museum in downtown Dallas, they have some super unique things there. The Dallas world aquarium is also super cool, I love that they have even more than fish.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family is extremely important to my makeup career and journey. They have always been supportive of my dreams. My mom, dad, sister, and fiancé all modeled for me on makeup school, which wasn’t just pretty beauty makeup. My mom allowed me to turn her into a old witch and a toxic waste zombie for my special effects final, she also modeled for many other looks. My sister and fiancé let me body paint them for my airbrush class, and my dad let me turn him into a drag Queen. My school also helped me pursue my dreams and prepared me for the makeup industry, I attended L Makeup Institute in Southlake, Texas.
