We had the good fortune of connecting with Edgar Llamas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edgar, why did you pursue a creative career?
From a young age, I knew that art was my calling. Growing up immersed in the world of graffiti, I developed a deep admiration for streetwear brands like Marc Ecko, Panik, and Tribal. I dreamt of creating something similar but was held back by fear for far too long. It wasn’t until I began training in Jiu Jitsu, one of the toughest martial arts, that I found the confidence to dive into my passion.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My passion for art and design began in middle school when my best friend showed me his older brother’s black book. The artwork inside captivated me, especially the letters—their shapes, colors, and the countless ways to create the same word. I was instantly hooked and remained passionate about art throughout high school and into my early 20s. After high school, I enrolled in a graphic design school, but unfortunately, I could only attend for six months due to financial constraints, as I only qualified for partial student loans. I still recall the call informing me that I could finish the quarter but couldn’t return afterward.
Following that, I entered the workforce, taking on various jobs from McDonald’s and Chuck E. Cheese (where I donned the mouse costume) to construction and warehouse positions. I often found myself either getting fired or promoted quickly, depending on my engagement with the job. The key lesson I learned was the importance of reliability and meeting expectations, which significantly contributed to setting my business apart from the competition.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots to visit are the bike trains at Ewing park in McKinney, lunch and dinner The Grandscape at The Colony
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this article to my wife, my mother, and my children, whose daily encouragement empowers me to embrace my true self and reminds me that being myself is enough.
