Meet Drew And The City | Singer/Songwriter, Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Drew And The City and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Drew and the City, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I was about four years old, I knew that I wanted to have a career in the musical arts. I was fascinated by the artists that came before me, and I knew that one day I wanted to share my music with the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Drew and the City. I am a Singer/Songwriter and producer hailing from Dallas, TX. My music is an incorporation of Pop and R&B. I started my journey as a young boy in church. Church was the first place that I got to showcase my talent and homed in on my skills. As a young child, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in music. I began writing songs as early as 8 or 9 years of age. Around the age of 15, I began to become more serious about my craft. I studied classical music in high school and began classical vocal training during that time. My years in high school, I competed in various UIL statewide competitions and learned how to sing in multiple languages. It was also at this time that I began to study music production and engineering. I learned how to successfully craft songs as well as the production aspect. I began engineering my own studio sessions as well as writing, producing and engineering other artists. Around 2015, I began releasing my original compositions professionally under a different moniker. In my Mid 20s, I moved to Los Angeles, California and began furthering my musical journey. In 2023, I released my debut album “Change’ independently which included my first big single “Need U Bad”. That single garnered thousands of streams as well as thousands of units sold. Getting to this point has been challenging but well worth it. I believe that my music is a different take on the music of today and I use every part of my journey to craft my sound and style. I like to say that I create Life music. Life music means that I make music that can’t be box into a genre or sound. Whether I’m singing about love, my faith or my life in general, I hope that my music can inspire others and can be something that people from all backgrounds and different creeds of life can relate to and enjoy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A perfect weekend in Dallas would consist of moving around the greater Dallas area. I would start at the Toyota Music Factory area in Las Colinas (Irving) A lot of different eateries there for people to try. I love the Frisco area. I’m a huge Cowboys fan so I spend a lot of time at The Star in Frisco and Legacy Hall on football Sundays. For nightlife, I would visit Deep Ellum or Uptown. I love Klyde Warren Park to chill and get fresh air.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I’m at today without my family and my close friends. Firstly, my parents. My mom and dad were both musically inclined and both had dreams of pursuing music on a professional level. As a child, I studied the efforts that they had made in their lives, and I knew I wanted to take the torch and reach greater heights. Secondly, would be my grandmother and great aunt. They saw my talent at an early age and always pushed me to do my best and show the world my talent. Lastly, would be my brother, cousin and my two best friends. My brother L.A. always supported me in whatever stage I was at in my career even when it meant leaving our hometown to grow as an artist. Next would be my best friend Jamela for the vocal inspiration and support throughout the years, my best friend Stacy for helping me craft my image as an artist in regard to my fashion and visual aspect and my cousin Danielle for being my visual director, videographer and visual producer. None of this is possible without them.
