We had the good fortune of connecting with Dream Dee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dream, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, I used to work in a call center and I know there are a lot of people who use THC for coping with things like stress and anxiety. Well, you can’t really go and hot box on your lunch break, no matter how good your perfume/cologne may be. So, they needed alternative options.
Voila!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m not really sure what sets me apart from other businesses because I haven’t really checked out the “competition.” Personally, a lot of the items I feature are based on some recipe that I saw that I wanted to try. But, I don’t just make baked goods. I also make seasonings and spices or you can get infused butter/oil. That way you can control your content and it’s not all sweets.
This has not been an easy road, by any means. When I first got started, I had a different business name and I was gaining a little traction. Unfortunately, my page was reported as being in violation of the tos, so it was removed from the platform along with all my contacts because I wasn’t capturing customer’s information outside of the platform. Lesson 1, kids. Make sure you get contact info of some sort, whatever the client is comfortable giving you. That way, you don’t have to go thru that.
This started as a hobby just trying to help some people I worked with and now I’m getting a Shoutout in a local publication. I’d call that a win!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown Dallas and surrounding areas like Oak Cliff and Deep Ellum are must-see places for the itinerary. My favorite taco spot is Tacos La Banqueta Puro near Downtown. I like the tripe tacos, but I never try to convert anyone who isn’t interested. LOL! I think the Trinity Garden Art Park and surrounding area. Like we could get pampered at Pressed Roots or go to Soiree Coffee bar (both of which are Black-owned) Maybe hang out at Klyde Warren and check out AT&T Discovery Center
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I had one extremely supportive person for a good portion of the journey. They are no longer with me, but they deserve the acknowledgment anyway.
