We had the good fortune of connecting with Donald (Donny) Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donald (Donny), how do you think about risk?
In my 17 years as a personal trainer, I’ve learned that taking calculated risks can be a game-changer, both in business and in life. When I encounter a situation that I can’t shake from my thoughts, something that keeps nudging at me day and night, I know it’s worth considering seriously.

But here’s the key: I always give myself enough time to remove my emotions from the equation. We all know emotions can be deceiving; they can lead us to make hasty decisions that we might regret later. So I sit on it. I mull it over while I’m training my middle-aged clients or spending time with my wife and kids. I try to envision every possible outcome, from the best-case scenario to the worst.

Once I’ve looked at it from all angles and consulted with people I trust, that’s when I make my move. And let me tell you, this approach has paid off time and time again. Whether it’s a new fitness program I’m considering introducing, or a new investment opportunity for my business, taking calculated risks has played an invaluable role in my career and personal life.

So, to anyone hesitant about taking that leap, I say this: if it’s something your mind keeps circling back to, it’s worth the risk. Just make sure it’s a calculated one.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Absolutely, I’m excited to share more about my business. What sets me apart is my 17-year commitment to understanding the unique fitness needs of middle-aged men. It’s not just about shedding pounds or bulking up; it’s about creating sustainable lifestyle changes that can last a lifetime. I’ve honed in on coaching techniques and workout regimes specifically tailored to the demands and realities of men in this age group. I pride myself on being more than just a “rep counter”; I aim to be a life coach, a mentor, and a friend to my clients.

Was it easy getting to where I am today? Absolutely not. The fitness industry is incredibly competitive, and it took years to establish my brand. I’ve faced numerous challenges, from figuring out the right marketing channels to getting clients to trust my methodologies. But I think the key to overcoming these hurdles has been perseverance and constantly updating my skills and knowledge. I always want to be at the forefront of the latest in fitness science and psychology.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the power of community. Whether it’s the immediate community of my family, who have been an unfailing source of support, or the broader community of my clients and fellow fitness professionals, this sense of togetherness has been crucial. I’ve found that the more value I can provide to my community, the more success I’ve had in return.

As for what I want the world to know about my brand? It’s that I’m in it for the long haul. I’m not here to give you a quick fix; I’m here to guide you through a life-changing journey. Whether you’re dealing with midlife weight gain, feeling low on energy, or just trying to stay active for your kids, I can help you hit those milestones and make the changes last.

So if you’re a middle-aged man looking to transform your life, not just your body, you know where to find me. I’m here in Dallas, Texas, ready to change lives one workout at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1. My Gym haha

2. Probably a Cowboys game if we could

3. Sugar Fire BBQ

4. The State Fair

5. Texas De Brazil

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If it were me, I’d give a huge shoutout to my wife and kids. They’re my rock, my motivation, and the reason I work so hard to be the best in my field. Being a personal trainer for 17 years isn’t a walk in the park, but knowing I have their unwavering support makes all the difference. My wife, especially, has been there through the ups and downs, always offering a listening ear and wise advice.

I also can’t forget my clients, particularly the middle-aged men who trust me to guide them through their fitness journeys. It’s incredibly rewarding to see them transform not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.

And of course, there have been a few books that significantly shaped my mindset. “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg is one that comes to mind. It delves into the science of habit formation, something that’s critical in my line of work and has been instrumental in helping my clients achieve sustainable results.

So, a big shoutout to all of these incredible people and resources that have made me who I am today. I’m grateful for each and every one of you.
