We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique D. Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique D., we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about the feminine care industry that outsiders are probably unaware of is the importance of the menstrual cycle as it pertains to women’s overall health. By outsiders, I am referring to anyone who may be unaware that the purpose and function of the menstrual cycle extends far beyond sexual reproduction.
Not only does the menstrual cycle function as a vital sign–it provides rich insight into the health status of other body systems. Such insight is especially useful in the early detection of serious health risks such as autoimmune disorders and heart disease.
Most of the messaging around feminine care and the menstrual cycle is focused on hygiene and minimizing the awareness of symptoms (i.e. Odor elimination or high absorption). Although hygiene is extremely important, I believe it is falsely overinflated in terms of its role in women’s health. We need to have a deeper conversation.
I want more women, feminine care brands, and influencers to know that feminine hygiene is a great starting point for the cultivation of self-awareness and personal wellness. Women of all ages deserve to know what the menstrual cycle is and how it works in order to take proper care of themselves. This is one of the primary goals of Holistic Yoni Care. I hope that my work invites women to have a more empowering conversation with their feminine healthcare provider at their next visit!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In 2019, I founded Holistic Yoni Care. What began as a collection of yoni egg crystals and herbal remedies for sensual healing is now a sacred wellness academy answering today’s call for conscious leadership.
Unlike mainstream feminine care brands that focus on selling hygiene products, Holistic Yoni Care provides a three-fold support system consisting of education, products, and sisterhood. I don’t just teach women about self-care and the menstrual cycle–I am also a women’s circle facilitator in the process of developing a Holistic Yoni Care Practitioner certification program that supports women as they step into their leadership as spiritual entrepreneurs.
My path to feminine leadership was not always easy, nor was it clear. From a spiritual awakening in 2009 to a devastating divorce in 2012 when I was also diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and hit rock-bottom–I came face-to-face with the truth that I wasn’t standing in my integrity, power, and sovereignty as a woman. I decided that I deserved a second chance to create a life that felt meaningful and aligned.
I began a simple self-care journey by writing a list of qualities that I desired in my ideal partner. I then made a commitment to myself to embody each of those qualities to the best of my ability. In short, it was a life changing deep-dive into the art of self-care. In a short time, I rediscovered the goddess within myself, met my amazing husband and father of my sons, and I reversed my diagnosis of PCOS–which I was told was impossible. I knew that I was called to share my story with other women so that they, too, could find healing and empowerment.
In 2014, I began selling natural body care recipes created for my own healing and blogging to connect my story to the products. I became a Reiki master in 2017 offering healing services to the Denton community. In 2018, I created and hosted the Yes To You Podcast to help other women tell their stories of overcoming adversity, creating success, and helping others along the way. In the spirit of personal development, I went on to publish two books and some virtual courses for spiritual entrepreneurs before realizing that I was completely burned out.
What I saw as chasing my dream was actually me running from having to feel my pain by trying to help others heal theirs. I had lost touch with the feminine–the gentle, subtle, essence in me that is able to receive nourishment and love. I started working with a yoni egg to develop a deeper sensual connection with myself and that’s when Holistic Yoni Care was born.
I have learned that women need other women for support in their life and business. No only does my circle of sisters hold space for me to be seen, heard, and celebrated–they are a mirror for my own personal and spiritual growth. I’ve also learned how much easier life is when I approach business the feminine way, which means leading with desire, surrender, and trust.
Aside from business, I am wife, mom, and a student esthetician working towards my dream of opening a women’s wellness temple and retreat center.
My mission with Holistic Yoni Care is empowering women to heal and remember their connection to the divine feminine through self-care so that they can create a life that is meaningful and aligned. My motto is, “You get to choose how you show up in life. Love yourself fiercely, own your story, and say YES to you!”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting the North Dallas area I would tell them to come with an appetite for food and fun! One place we’d visit is Ida Claire in Addison–one of the most delicious and homey places to dine and connect with friends. A stroll through Klyde Warren Park to sample some of the local food trucks and get a feel for the spirit of Dallas would also be in order. For a change of pace, we would visit the Tx-Ture farm in Crossroads for soap making and alpaca yoga. The adventure wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Texas Motor Speedway and finally, the legendary Pan-African Connection in Oakcliff for community drumming, education, and shopping.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to one of the most selfless and amazing women on this planet–my big sister Krystal Ewing. For as long as I can remember, Krystal has been such a light, inspiration, nurturer, teacher, and encourager to everyone she touches–especially me. She is the embodiment of compassion, resilience, patience, and fierce love–I would not be the woman I am today without her. I am also grateful for the support, guidance, and encouragement of my beautiful Aunts Viesta, Denise, and Norma Jean. Finally, I give thanks to Rev. Lee Wolak of Agape Spiritual Center and my Toastmasters family at Speak-Up Frisco. Collectively, they challenged me to rise into my leadership, held me when I fell, and empowered me to discover my true potential.
