We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Raspy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?

One of the most important lessons my journey in entrepreneurship has taught me is to NEVER GIVE UP! That might sound cliché, but recognizing the need for resilience has been impactful. The road of entrepreneurship is not an easy one. You have to possess a tenacity and drive that produces grit to stay motivated for the long haul. Another important lesson I have learned is to be your AUTHENTIC SELF. Being genuine and showing up as you truly are makes all the difference when you are establishing a brand that will be successful.

What should our readers know about your business?

I am a mobile DJ in the DFW area specializing in clean music for any occasion. I am also the proud Founder/CEO of “Miss DJ Tees”, a t-shirt brand that empowers and celebrates women in the DJ industry. As a female DJ, I am aware that it can be difficult to overcome negative stigmas associated with women in a male saturated field. I believe my approachability, attention to client details, and enthusiasm leaves a positive impression on my clients. Admittedly, the most difficult part of my journey is feeling like I have “something to prove” and as a self-taught DJ, I often find myself comparing my skill set to male counterparts. As a result, I am driven to continue developing as a DJ and entrepreneur while making sure I am staying relevant in a field that is always evolving. I have dealt with various challenges along the way, yet I am proud of my personal growth and I am determined to continue perfecting my craft as a DJ and help build a community of like-minded individuals who can contribute unique perspectives and experiences.

My hope is that my t-shirt line “Miss DJ Tees”, with the accompanying Brand Ambassador Program can be as a vessel to exemplify the essence of female DJs; heighten the support of women in the DJ industry, and show how necessary it is for us to be a significant part of this field. It is my heartfelt desire to amplify female DJ voices in a positive way. Our motto is Inspire. Uplift. Ignite. These three simple words embody the culture of empowerment that defines my brand!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely want to visit a couple of my favorite eating places. Kitchen + Kocktails would be number one on my list! But you know I have to also hit up the soul food places like South Dallas Café and Two Podners across from Fair Park! For a little nightlife (I can’t do too much past my bedtime lol) I love the rooftop terrace/bar at HQ Dallas Rooftop. That’s a fun trendy spot for a drink or two. Maybe even going down to Deep Ellum for a couple of the live music spots would be really fun.
I really like to visit the Farmers Market. The fruit is the bomb! We could take our fruit to Klyde Warren Park to relax and enjoy some nice weather (hopefully this is in spring)
We would have to go to the Galleria for some shopping!
I would also love to go to the Arboretum. Get some great shots with the beautiful scenery for our Instagram page (lol)
Close to the Arboretum is White Rock Lake and we could definitely get some exercise by walking the trail.
Wooo I am getting tired just thinking about doing all that!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my family. They encouraged me to start this journey and continue to support me as I move forward to my goals. They have supported me financially, emotionally and in every way possible. I could not do this without their love and support!
