We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Weems and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diamond, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from a small town in New York called Lyons, but I currently live in Charlotte, NC. My upbringing had a huge impact on who I am today because of my mother. My mother made sure my brothers and I were set with everything we needed, not what we wanted. When I would ask her how to do something, it was “Diamond, I don’t know.” It’s not that she really didn’t know, but she was molding me into the person I am today. It was more so, figure it out for yourself because no one is just going to give it to you. This stuck with me as I grew older, and I have always figured it out from the small tasks to the big tasks. It has taken longer to figure some things about, but at the end of the day – it’s get done. I can’t thank my mother enough for having such a huge impact on my success today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lip N Pour is a custom blend studio in which guests can create their own custom lip product thats tailored to their skin tone while creating a memorable experience.

What sets us apart from others is that we allow guests to not be confined by the limitations at the beauty counter and create an experience that is personalized and unique to them. Guests can create any shade imaginable, select from distinct textures that provides sheen from a matte lipstick to a lipgloss, and the best part – all of our ingredients are natural.

I am most proud of our recent success which was transforming Lip N Pour into a franchise. Yup, that’s right. We are now franchising our concept Lip N Pour.

Everyone thinks business is easy because they are on the outside looking in. I’m here to tell you, it’s not easy, because if it was everyone would be doing it. Everyone will go through challenges with their business and overcome them. My two biggest challenges I overcame is trademarking my business and having to deal with the shutdown due to Covid. I overcame these challenges by sticking to my gut and having a plan. I knew that I had to improvise the covid protocol since I had an event space, so I made it possible to create products online.

The biggest lessons I learned along the way is you got to be consistent, work hard, and don’t get tied up with distractions. No one sees your vision the way you do except you. Work hard towards what you want and everything else will follow.

I want the world to know that Lip N Pour is the first black owned custom blend studio and it will be the world’s most reputable and innovative beauty brand that will provide customers with a perfect experience by delivering quality products, good value, and professional services.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend was visiting – she would already know I am a homebody, but loves to eat. I would most certainly take her to Lip N Pour to experience the art of creating her own lip products. A few other places that I would take her to would be King Crab – to eat the best seafood in Charlotte, Tipsy Tacos – to have a few drinks and eat tacos, The Selfie Museum, and enjoy riding scooters in uptown Charlotte.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Recognizing that my success is where I am today cannot have been done without my support team. I want to shoutout my parents Debra Clack and LeeRoy Waterman for bringing me into this world. I want to thank my supportive boyfriend Chad Carner, for believing in my vision and spending countless hours, time, money to make this dream happen. I want to thank my sister LeeAnn Waterman for being the supportive big sister that she is. I also want to shoutout my close friends Judith Joseph, Kaitlin Ashley, and Courtney White for their support in this entrepreneurship journey. There is nothing like having a group of friends that are in the same space as you and can bounce ideas off of. Last but not least, I want to thank all the support from my customers, friends, and family. You guys are truly amazing and I appreciate each and every one of you.
