We had the good fortune of connecting with Demeshia Booker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Demeshia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was at home one night completely broken and drowning in my own tears. I got up to go to the kitchen and didn’t realize that a package had been delivered, it was my Master’s degree. I guess it arrived earlier that day and one of my girls opened the door for the package. I decided a few months earlier I wasn’t going to participate in the ceremony, and I hadn’t even thought when the degree would be mailed. But when I opened that package and saw my name, I knew I was unstoppable. I was encouraged by my own perseverance and my spirits were lifted. At that point, I decided to start my blog and share my story with women. My blog reached and impacted so many women, quickly I saw the bigger picture and launched my brand. My brand’s purpose is to Inspire, Encourage and Empower women of all walks of life. The evolution of my brand was and is the evolution of myself. The most difficult decision we can make is to choose ourselves. I had to learn how to fall in love with the person I had ran from for so many years. I saw her in the mirror everyday but could only see her imperfections. Its wasn’t until I chose her that I saw the beauty in her flaws. You must live your reality and be true to who you are. What’s strange is even though I chose me, sometimes I find myself caught with having to make that decision again.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my professional life I am a Government Contracting Officer. I have been working for the same organization for 20 years. A lot of who I am was formed throughout my career. However, who I am at my core is an Encourager and my passion project is my brand Demeshia Lavette. My brand is centered around helping and encouraging women to beat the odds, live to their full capacity and be bold in who they are. Through Demeshia Lavette, I am able to reach women through my blog, weekly affirmations, books, speaking engagements and mentorship. I have published two books, my first being a memoir entitled “Refined, My Memoir”. The second is a mindset e-book entitled “Wake Up Different”. Both books are available on Amazon as well as my website.. I am truthful in my story because I want to attract authentic women seeking real change. Transparency is sacrificing vulnerability to help someone else. All of my services and blogs are available on my website, I would love to connect with authentic people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Even as a Dallas native, this is a very hard question for me. I wouldn’t consider myself the best tour guide. I rely on my friends to keep me up to date on the newest and best places to hang out. However, I think it would also depend on the personality of the friend coming to visit. There are some great restaurants and places to hang out in Dallas and I love my city. However, I am not on the scene as much lately. Therefore, this was the hardest question for me to answer. But I will try, I love hanging in the Bishop Arts District, Trinity Groves, and Deep Ellum. So, I guess these would be some of the areas we would hit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My life’s journey has been full of surprises but one thing has been constant, the love of my daughters, I would like to dedicate this interview and shout out to Tramoni Garrett and Rayleon Booker. They have been my biggest fans and I love them with all of me.. However, there have been organizations I have been able to partner with and have helped me through this process. I would like to shout out Let’s Start Giving Foundation, A Symbol of Grace Ministries, Grits and Goals, A Single Hand Foundation, Full on Faith, Green Apple Lane, Asha Owens Brand and The Alabaster Box Radio Station on DFWiGospel.com. These individuals through their organizations believed in me and supported me and I want to recognize them.
