We had the good fortune of connecting with Dazore Bradford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dazore, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
To be honest there wasn’t really one. It was always something I talked about in passing with my friends here and there, but I hadn’t acted on it. Then last summer I was at a job that I didn’t really like. What everything boiled down to was I began to understand my value and my worth. The place I worked at didn’t have my best interest and I decided I was going to stand up for myself and really own “Nah this ain’t it”. I went into business knowing that I was passionate about food and I wanted to see my community eat well. I remember people always asking me about my lunch at work and I just thought I would start there. I have always enjoyed cooking and using my friends and maybe I can cook for other people too. Starting this business was a giant leap of faith but I decided that taking a chance on myself was worth it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cooking the Details is how you feel after 3.59 glasses of mimosas. You feel lighthearted, excited, and on top of the world. My cooking style and my brand are all about connecting and learning. I want people to come to my Instagram page and be curious and excited about what they see. I want my clients at the end of dinner parties to be exhausted from being a little too full, laughing too much, and great conversation. When clients inquire about my services I can happily say 80% of our conversation is talking and getting to know each other. Yes, as a chef I am there to cook a meal by a certain deadline but I feel a personal responsibility to create a delicious moment for every person. Food should feel familiar yet original, kind of like home. I am proud Cooking the Details represents our everyday experiences with an extra dash of color. I love reimagining something tasty and beautiful from everyday ingredients and finding new ways to enjoy my favorites as a kid.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s hard to choose a favorite anything here! My favorite thing about Dallas is that I can google search to my heart’s desire and eat my way through the city! I definitely graze based on what part of town I’m in and refer to my google list of saved and want to go. For sushi, I love Sushi Kadan in Carrollton. But we should probably eat some Korean BBQ at some point too. We NEED to have Cake Bar, I love their pineapple upside-down cake. For breakfast, I love Ellens in downtown for their pancakes, they are so darn tasty. I also love the Waffle House by my house (not all WHs are the same). I get chatty with the staff, one waitress there remembers my order, and it’s my happy place! Hard Eight BBQ is my favorite for BBQ. Oh and No. 1 Plus Chicken off Forest Lane on the 35. I am leaving out some places but I probably just ate there so these are the places on my mind now. I love the aquarium (the fish are so cute), the Perot, and White Rock Lake. Before ‘Rona I was the type of person who would go on Eventbrite or Facebook events and try something just because. I sincerely love this the DFW metroplex. I love exploring different neighborhoods and supporting local businesses in the neighborhood.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to thank my family and friends for all of the support and love. ALL the phone calls. ALL the positive encouragement when I had (and still have..) no idea what I was doing. However, I especially want to give special thanks to my mom and grandma. My mom and grandma are the definitions of a strong work ethic and perseverance. I was raised that you do the right thing with love and care because you should. Each of them put love and passion into everything that they do and I’m proud that I grew up not knowing any other to be.
