We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dawn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After working in social services for many years, I found myself having major compassion fatigue and yearning to tap into my creativity. I began by making customized shirts for friends and family. Entrepreneurship is really big in our household and after many talks and encouragement from my husband who is a full time entrepreneur as well I decided to start “Diggs By Dawn”.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
“Diggs By Dawn” is a customized doormat and items business which began a year ago. Growing up I loved to draw and make personalized greeting/birthday cards for my family members but as time went on I stopped and after much reflection I realized that I had to tap into my creative side in order to make me feel whole again . I started with making customized tiles, shirts and expanded to making custom doormats which I’m most proud of. My custom doormats are bold, catchy and leave a lasting first impression on visitors when they arrive at your home!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to eat & have a good cocktail to compliment my meal so on Friday night we would go to Moxie’s Restaurant in Uptown Dallas. Saturday we would visit Firehouse Gastro Park Resturant and Coffee Shop in Grand Prairie and go shopping afterwards. That night we would visit Deep Ellum and go to Vidorra (I love Mexican food,,lol) and afterwards “Whiskey Hatchet” to have some fun! Sunday for brunch I would take them to True Kitchen and Kocktails just to have some great food and catch a great vibe to close the weekend! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my husband first and foremost. He provides me with so much encouragement and motivation daily to take the risks in life that I would have never thought to take and pushes me to be the best at everything I do. He is my number one supporter and without him, Diggs By Dawn probably wouldn’t exist. Second my children, my lifelines…all of this is because of them. I want to continue to show them how much believing in yourself and creating a lane for yourself is important. I never want them to have to rely on anyone when all that they have is inside of them.
