We had the good fortune of connecting with David Narita and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in fountain valley, California in 1981, and in 1983 my parents were convicted of a crime that landed them 16 years to Life behind bars. My dad’s parents took me in and raised me in Orange county until 1988, when we moved to Riverside county. My grandparents were both managing bowling alleys from the time I was born until about 1985. My grandfather decided to change careers and started works my for a glass and screen shop while my grandma still managed her bowling alley. Grandpa Larry worked hard, and took me to work with him often. I learned how to make screens, and watched him cut glass. Eventually by 1988 he had an opportunity to buy an existing business in Riverside called Al’s Glass & Screen. I would spend countless hours at the shop honing my skills as a glazier until one day my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. I was 12. Within 3 months of his diagnosis he passed away. Now it was just me and my Grandma. I no longer cared about school as I could see how stressed she was having to raise a young teenager on her own. Eventually by 1994 I was working full time at the shop, and putting my studies on hold. I felt I had to help my grandma keep the shop running. Then in 1999 my Grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. My world was crashing down on top of me.
Circa December 1999 the shop was signed into my aunt’s name because I was still a minor. Granted all my life I was told the business is as for me, and it would be my future, but it wouldn’t be so, and I would lose everything to my aunt, and uncle. Everyone turned their back on me over greed. I lost everyone and everything I loved and worked for. I spent the next two years on friends couches. My friends parents felt bad for me so they let me stay with them on and off. I would rotate friends houses so they wouldn’t get tired of me. Buy 2001 I had made some bad decisions trying to survive, and ended up in Jail. I spent 10 months thinking about my life and what I wanted to do when I got out. I was going to start my own business when I was released.
2002 I was released from Jail, and I only had one place to go. My best friend at the time, and his grandma were the closest thing to family I had left so they took me in. 2002 was a crazy time as a young adult. I started partying to forget the past, and what had happened to me. I got mixed up with the wrong crowds, and in 2002 I ended up catching a 2 year sentence in Prison. At this time I had no idea what was in store for me, or what I would become. Over the next 20 years I would struggle with homelessness and having a hard time working because I was limited. Nobody wanted to hire a convicted felon. Flash forward to 2022 I was ready to be my own boss. I took the leap of faith and jumped in head first. At first I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do so I brainstormed and decided I would use my skills as a mechanic to start my business. I did some market research and realized their was a gap in the mobile mechanic market. I created a Google account, and added my business on Google maps. I was full time from day 1 and I knew I had found a business that would exceed my expectations. Now almost 2 years later I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in life, and I don’t know that if be the business owner I am today without the upbringing of my Grand Parents, and the struggles I went through over 20 years. Dave’s #1 Mobile Mechanic is the preferred choice for drivers in the DFW!
I thank my Grandparents who raised me, and God who watched our for me and guided me through the last 13 years. With God all things are possible! 🙏
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from everyone else is my customer service, and honesty. I give my clients quality vehicle care at an affordable cost. I am excited for the growth of my business, and look forward to serving more of our community. I’ve already served over 1500+ clients since opening in 2023 and hope to keep helping our community keep their vehicles on the road for years to come! The one thing I can say about building a business or brand in the DFW is never give up.
Keep an eye out for Dave’s #1 Mobile Mechanic! If you see me out there don’t be shy and say hi, or wave, or both!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places in the DFW are the lakes and rivers! I love fishing, and so do most of my friends so a trip to my favorite lakes is always in order. I spend a lot of my free time enjoying nature. My favorite lakes is lake Lavon lake just outside of Plano. If you see me make sure to stop by and say hi!
Other places I e enjoyed spending time at is Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, Dallas Zoo, Dallas Arboretum, Fort Worth Zoo, and Bridgeport OHV.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank God #1 and then my Grandparents who raised me, my wife and kids, and anyone who has helped me to get where I am today. Thank you!
