We had the good fortune of connecting with Darik Caswell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darik, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
We’re all from the DFW metroplex and we’ve all been playing music since we were kids. Stephen had his own band for several years and saw some success with the release of several singles. Clint played around town with some notable artists like Cody Jinks and others before going out on US tours with Trace Adkins and Gretchen Wilson. I was always just the drummer… Guitar and vocals were something I didn’t even pick up until 2008 when the economy started to tank and it was hard for full bands to make a living. So, I bought a guitar and a great friend of mine and I started playing duo acoustic shows. It’s wild to see the changes and progress that’s been made from then to now. We put this band together about 5 years ago really just as a joke. The mullet wigs and crazy clothes were just part of the look that matched the sound of the 90’s country genre we were performing. It really took on a life of its own though after just a few shows. Within the first 18 months, we realized just how much traction we were getting based on the size of the shows and crowds we were playing in front of. Because of this, we’ve been blessed with some incredible opportunities and we’ll be releasing some new music (covers and originals) this year.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets us apart from others is just the energy and genuine good time we bring to the stage. Every show we do is an opportunity to earn a new fan and build a new relationship through music. Whether that’s through a 30 year old cover song or a brand new original, it offers something new to someone in the crowd. We actually have some new music being released this year. We’re not quite set on a release date yet, but we’ll be sure to give an update via our social pages and website once we get that solidified. That’s probably been our biggest challenge this year. Once we decided to record, we weren’t sure whether it should be covers, originals or a little bit of both. I think you’ll be excited to see what we’ve decided once we announce the release date. We’re just excited to be doing what we do. We recognize just how fortunate and blessed we are!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, there is so much to do here… Where do we even start? If you’re visiting Texas, you’ve gotta try some Texas style BBQ. We’d probably do some dining at Terry Blacks or Hurtado BBQ. We’d definitely have to make our way out to the Fort Worth Stockyards for the cattle drive and a little bar hopping. Billy Bob’s Texas and Best Hat Store are a couple of “must do’s” if you’re in the Stockyards. Maybe take in a Rangers game or get a round of golf in. I’d DEFINITELY make sure they experienced a Neon Prophets show! haha

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The support of our families is absolutely most important. You know, we’re not in our early 20’s anymore. We have wives and kids and responsibilities. I’d say we’re pretty blessed with families that are incredibly understanding and supportive. There is a lot to be said for the venues that book us and the fans that continue to come out and support what we do as well. It’s pretty amazing to see the lines to get into some of the venues we play, the way folks will wait around to buy our merchandise or shake our hand and get a picture after the show. We also have some incredible sponsors: Best Hat Store, R. Watson Boots, Certified Hustler, Wrap Works and several others that take very good care of us. None of this goes unnoticed on our behalf. Our entire crew works hard and appreciates everything we get in return!
