We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Y. Sucre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy Y., what are you inspired by?
People! I love the students I get to work with everyday. I love their strong brave moms and I love the staff. In general, I am just inspired by people I meet daily. I love to meet and hear the stories we all have to tell. Inspiration doesn’t come from isolation to me, it comes from the hard work, smiles, the good days and bad days of being around everyday people. I thrive off of the connections that are made with business partners, families, students and staff. My biggest inspiration comes from home. My family inspires me. They give me the courage and belief that I have a purpose in life and helping and serving people is a big part of my calling.

What should our readers know about your business?
One of the main factors that sets IIW Life-Skills Center for young adults with special needs apart from other day programs is the quality aspect. A lot of other programs are funded by insurance plans or government funding where either there is not enough funding to adequately pay and retain staff suitable enough for the amount of clients they have or the regulations put on the day programs by the insurance companies and government make it to hard to give the level of care they’d like to provide. Since IIW is a private pay program, it is more faceable to give a higher level of care and training needed for our students to live a more social, independent and enjoyable life & gives the parents a sense of peace of mind. think of it like this, it’s public school vs. private school. One thing that I’d want the world to know about me is that I care. I care about every family we serve, every student we have & every staff member on the team, The details are very important to me. business connections and partnerships are a big part of our existence and sustainability. Every person I work with regardless if their in the front or behind the scenes make a remarkable impact on me as a person and as a business. The students that come to us are typically right out of high school or about to graduate and I look at these parents and I see the fear of what are we going to do now. What I am most proud of is getting to say “Don’t worry, your son/daughter is in a great place & we got his” I love to see the peace come over them!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
for me it’s a tough question because I am mostly a home body. I do like to eat in downtown Roanoke (which is the dining capital of Texas) at either Jack & Grill or Babes Chicken. I also love a place in Argyle called Marty B’s and would definitely bring a visitor from out of town there, as it’s a beautiful ranch with a restaurant that has indoor and outdoor dining. What is unique is that indoors is very classy and elegant and outdoors they have food trucks, a fire pit & dance floor, so you really have the best of both worlds making it fun and family friendly or date night friendly. Another place I love to visit is the Southlake town center, in Southlake. there is a wide variety of food options and live music on the weekends with different shops in the plazas and because its primarily outdoors, it’s pet friendly!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so very grateful to my parents. From raising me through to adulthood, to being a single parent to being married into a blended family. Regardless of my position, status or circumstance in life, My parents have always been there to love and support me all the way. I also owe a big credit to my loving husband Michael, who gave me the ability to be there fulltime when my daughter needed her mom the most. Michael also supported me with my dreams of owning my own business and plays a key role in my life as a whole. Above all else, I would have to say if I didn’t first learn the skills it takes to not only own a business, but learn how to mange and work with people, I would have never even made it this far. for that, I owe a major thank you to my former boss, Mr. Markin, he took a chance on a young single mom, took me under his wing and taught me so much about business and people while guiding me on the keys to success. Last but not least, I am so so thankful and amazed everyday for my daughter. Yazmarie, you inspire me! to see you go through as much as you have and continue to fight the good fight everyday proves how strong you really are. A Bright, beautiful young woman and I am so proud of you. Thank you all for being such an intricate part of my life.
