We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Birne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy, what is the most important factor behind your success?

The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand today is having had the good fortune of excellent mentors, colleagues, and friends who recognized my abilities early on and always encouraged me to fly. Throughout my life, I have innately gravitated toward leaders and taken advantage of every opportunity presented to me to learn more. It wasn’t until later in life that I realized everything I was learning along my journey was actually preparing me for the next step in a new one. I have always been self-driven, motivated, and passionate about my work and thrive on producing results.

Beginning my professional career with one of the leading advertising agencies in Dallas, Texas, I found my true calling in public relations, marketing, and promotion of the Dallas Cowboys football team under the leadership of legendary President and General Manager Texas E. Schramm. Mentored by the best, I learned the ins and outs of the sports and entertainment industry.

When the team was later sold, I transitioned into sports marketing to become the Director of Public Relations for Talent Sports International led by Robin Blakeley (now a principal at Overland Partners). I began working with and representing high-profile athletes including future NFL Hall of Famers, NBA legends, MLB standouts and Olympic volleyball all-stars, in addition to coordinating major sports and philanthropic events, securing corporate sponsors, coordinating press conferences, and securing comprehensive media coverage.

During this time I co-founded the NFL Quarterback Club which brought together the best current and former NFL quarterbacks of all time. The purpose of the organization was to support worthwhile causes through celebrity sports events, commercial endorsements, and literary opportunities. Throughout, I had the opportunity to meet and work with team owners, executives, coaches, advertising executives, corporate sponsors, and professional athletes.

Following an introduction to renowned literary agent Jan Miller at a book launch event, I was presented with the opportunity to exchange high-profile athletes for NY Times bestselling authors including Anthony Robbins and the late Stephen R. Covey to become the Director of Publicity and Marketing for Dupree Miller & Associates. Accepting the position, I learned the intricacies of the publishing industry. Over the decades I have represented diplomats, thought leaders, historians, prosecutors, CEOs, business leaders, physicians, professors, NFL sports journalists, news journalists, athletes, coaches, and high-profile chefs in addition to helping people with stories to tell become published authors.

In 2014, I launched Cindy Birne Public Relations, LLC, where I continue to generate publicity and marketing rollouts, create media buzz and coordinate events on a local, regional, national, and global level. I continue to work directly with members of the media, publishers, editors, writers, cover designers, and in-house publicity and marketing teams within publishing houses including Grand Central Publishing, Hachette Book Group, Crown Publishing Group, Simon & Schuster, Penguin Random House, Bantam Books, independent publishers, and university presses. I have collaborated with major motion picture studios including Searchlight Pictures and Paramount on cross-promotional publicity campaigns and film premieres working with publicity executives at the top talent and PR agencies.

Throughout my life, I have also volunteered my time and resources to help raise funds for numerous philanthropic organizations, serving on the boards and committees for numerous luncheons, galas, and soirees.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are many favorite spots I would take my best friend visiting the area! Where to begin! For shopping experiences you can’t go wrong with stops at Northpark mall, Highland Park Village or Legacy West. For drinks margaritas are a must and this might include The Monkey Bar at Mi Cocina in Highland Park Village or Mesero on Belt Line Road with a patio view of a golf course or Javier’s. With so many dining options and places for happy hour, it’s hard to pick just one or two, so assuming there are no limits, The Monarch for the city view, Katy Trail Ice House for a real Texas vibe––think Austin––Al Biernat’s on Oak Lawn, Bistro 31, Hillstone, Parigi, AND various options in the Dallas Design District.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will be forever grateful to the late legendary President and General Manager of the Dallas Cowboys football club, Texas E. Schramm and key Cowboys executives who recognized early on my drive, ambition, energy, enthusiasm, loyalty, concern for the job at hand, and determination to succeed. The opportunity to work for the Dallas Cowboys changed the trajectory of my life and my professional career forever. I also credit my mentors and colleagues who always encouraged me to fly; I am tremendously thankful for two very special people whose inspirational support helped me to launch Cindy Birne Public Relations by becoming my first clients: former U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Robert W. Jordan, Diplomat-in-Residence at SMU Tower Center and author of Desert Diplomat and Kristin S. Kaufman, founder, Alignment, Inc.,® leadership advisor, business consultant and author of the highly successful IS THIS SEAT TAKEN? book series. And to everyone else I have been fortunate enough to represent through the years.
