We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Christian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chloe, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew I wanted to start an e-commerce business but, it took me a minute to find my niche. Most people expected me to open a cosmetics line but, although I do makeup, it wasn’t something I was interested in at the time. I quickly realized that I wanted to open up a romance boutique. Black people are very under represented in sex work. Every shop you go into, any website you go on, black faces are nowhere to be found. I wanted to open up a store positively represented the black body. Black people deserve positive body exploration.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a romance boutique called KweenThingz. The business is very new, we launched in September. I literally launched this business within 6 months of springing the idea and honestly I’ve done very well I must say. However, I am still overcoming a lot of challenges. One of my biggest challenges starting was finding a merchant vendor who would allow me to have an account. Because I’m considered “high risk” a lot of business won’t process credit cards for you. I made so many phone calls, cried a couple times. But, it all worked out. I want the world to know that KweenThingz WILL make history. I’m one of the first black owned boutiques to shoot black models and place them on my website and social media. Soon, you will start seeing black faces in your adult novelty toy boxes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom deserves a huge shoutout for allowing me to grow into the person I wanted to be. Also, for showing me my body is beautiful and worthy. This has allowed me to show that to others. My beautiful sister who keeps be going. She looks up to me and I go hard everyday for her. Of course my very good friends, they know how they are. They always encourage my ideas and business ventures. Love all of them!
