We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheyenne Gray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheyenne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business wasn’t as intentional as most. For a while, I wrote for students in college, local small businesses, and even friends, all for free. Like, absolutely free. I was passionate about self-expression – be it a business or individual. It was so important to me that those who were unable to get into words their mission or objectives still had an opportunity to express themselves the way they truly desired. Over time, things naturally evolved. Referrals began pouring in, then sooner, larger requests came in. I absolutely loved every moment of it, but there just wasn’t enough “free time” for me to fulfill the need. The exact moment when that light bulb went off saying – oh, wait! I might actually have something here” is literally the moment A Writer’s World was birthed.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Anytime I begin talking about my craft, I feel like I should pause and cue Erykah Badu, “now keep in mind that I’m an artist. And I’m sensitive about my ish.” Lol, no, but seriously – I am! I feel like my writings are my babies and should be protected and revered as such. I am just so proud of my work, so I desire for it to be respected. Although I am a writer amongst many other talented writers, I am still regarded as a unicorn. I’m set apart from my follower penman because of the wide range of work I produce. I not only blog, but I also curate marketing copywriting material. I’m a children’s author and a Ghost novel writer. In my other time, I serve clients with creative copy pieces, business docs – you name it! And I enjoy it all. I began in poetry. I loved that the rules were few, and I was able to be creative and elliptical. It helped me define my voice and tone in writing. While ghostwriting challenged me to tell a story that I never witnessed as if it was my own, each journey was beautiful. Though I’d often write to remain sharp, it flowed so naturally. Natural enough that one morning I rolled over in my bed, grabbed a pen and paper, then within 20 mins I had written my very first children’s book – which is by far one of my most prized possessions. It was my first (personal) published material. I was more proud of the courage I had to write, illustrate and self-publish it than anything else. From that moment up until now, I’ve learned so much. I’ve made so many errors. I’ve gone through bouts of discouragement, but above all, I’ve learned so much. I’ve grown so very much. My earnest desire is to have the world know that A Writer’s World is much more than a servicing writing company but rather a place to produce, share, and tell your story in all its glory.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friends and I host company quite often in Dallas, and at this point, we have our list of favorites secured! I’m very much a foodie, and brunch is an excellent way to gain the key to my heart. Places like The Common Table and Tupelo Honey are the go-to when we have company in town. It’s located in Frisco, right on The Star ave and within walking distance of the Dallas Cowboys practice stadium. For those looking to enjoy a midday cocktail, we usually jet on over to just about any day party on McKinney ave in downtown Dallas. There are so many eateries and bars along the entire strip. On Sunday, we relax and unwind with a bit of neo-soul live music in Las Colinas at Lava Cantina. It’s always a great vibe. As for any other nightlife happenings, Downtown Dallas never disappoints. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous, and the view from the reunion town watching as the sunsets is breathtaking.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, I would not have made it this far in my career without the love, support, and encouragement from my friends and family. They have been an anchor in every decision and every turn my business has taken from the beginning. Many have sown in tears alongside me during dry seasons. Others have rolled up their sleeves and gotten dirty in the mud with me. I’m so appreciative, and I feel so blessed to have the support system that I do. Even as a writer and orator, I’ll never have the right words to express just how grateful I am for every seed, deposit, and love shown towards myself and my business. There aren’t enough thank-yous I can give that would reflect just how much my siblings, mother, Peaks Agency, Meerkhat, and so many others have phenomenally impacted my business.
