We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheryl Edinbyrd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheryl, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In many ways, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit—it was just something in me, even if I didn’t fully recognize it at the time. Like many people, life circumstances led me down a more traditional path, working in corporate America to make a living. But over time, I realized that while I was earning a paycheck, I wasn’t growing. In fact, I felt stuck—held in a space that didn’t allow me to evolve or fully step into my purpose.

As I navigated through my own personal challenges, often without support, I began to clearly see the gaps in the systems around me. I knew I wasn’t the only one struggling silently. And instead of continuing to accept that reality, I chose to become part of the solution.

After completing my PhD, I made the leap—I left the job (which felt more like “just over broke”) without knowing exactly where I would land. What I did know was that I no longer wanted to be in environments that stifled my growth. So, I created the space I needed. That’s what led me to start my own business: the desire to heal, to help, and to build something that not only allowed me to grow but also empowered others to do the same.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want every day to feel like a soul-nourishing experience—something special, memorable, and deeply connected. We’d focus on wellness, fun, and creating moments that feel both intimate and rejuvenating.

We’d start with something creative and grounding like a candle-making class—something we could bring home and light later as a reminder of the time shared. Then, we’d indulge in massages and a calming sound bath meditation, allowing our bodies and spirits to fully relax. One day would include a gentle yoga session to help us breathe, move, and reconnect.

Midweek, we’d get cute and go hiking at one of the beautiful local trails—maybe Cedar Ridge Preserve—followed by a well-deserved brunch at Seven Mile Café in Mesquite, TX. Their diverse menu means everyone’s cravings are covered, and the vibe is just right for long, laughter-filled conversations.

Wednesday night, we’d head to Wellness Wednesday at The Greenhouse Lounge in DeSoto, a perfect space for community, self-care, and good vibes.

Later in the week, we’d treat ourselves to a full spa day at Spa Castle in Carrollton, lounging, soaking, and just being still. Then, for something a little different and deeply meaningful, we’d spend a day at Energy Gardens in Downtown Dallas, building terrariums. It’s a symbolic gift—something alive we can each take home to represent the growth and connection we share.

By the end of the trip, we’d be refreshed, realigned, and full of joy. To me, fun doesn’t always mean fast-paced—it means intentional experiences, great conversation, and spaces that feed the soul. The Dallas area offers so many beautiful spots to do just that.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many people and experiences to thank for helping shape my journey. First and foremost, my husband deserves the biggest shoutout. He’s my greatest supporter and an incredible partner in every area of life…personally and professionally. His love and belief in me have been unwavering.

I also want to thank my children. Knowing I wanted them to experience a different lifestyle than I did gave me the push to believe in myself and to create something greater…not just for me, but for them.

And to my grandchildren, you are my daily reminder of why I continue to strive for excellence, unapologetically. You are my joy, my motivation, and a big part of the legacy I’m building. Everything I do is with your future in mind.

My late father, Larry Johnson, holds a very special place in this journey. He instilled in me a quiet strength and always affirmed that I could be and do anything I set my mind to. May he continue to rest well—his influence is still with me every step of the way.

Professionally, I’ve had the privilege of working with The Afiya Center, an organization that continues to inspire me. I’m grateful for the work we’ve done together and look forward to more collaboration. I’m also excited about the possibility of partnering with The GreenHouse Lounge in the future.

And finally, I want to thank every heartbreak, every disappointment, and every unexpected turn—they’ve all taught me to pivot with grace. Each one has been a stepping stone, helping me align more fully with my purpose and destiny.
