We had the good fortune of connecting with Cherise Kahle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cherise, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
2 years ago my husband and I had bought a 30 year old home that we re-designed and renovated. I realized through the process that I had a love for all things home. A little while after we had wrapped up our renovations on our home, I got pregnant! We decided the best decision for our family would be for me to leave my social media job and stay home with our son. I wanted to be able to be there fully for those precious moments in the early years, but at the same time I wanted to continue to have an outlet for creativity since I would no longer be working my marketing job.
As I continued to decorate our home, my husband started a side business, now known as “Sandalwood Lane”, handmaking beautiful wood tables for DFW homes. It became clear that our passion was turning houses to homes, which prompted me to start my blog, Cherise Kahle Blog, where I am able to share lifestyle and home content.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think about some of my favorite memories around the dinner table growing up, and a lot of the moments that made me who I am go back to my home. The culture that is created and the memories that are made make up who you are and because of that, I am so passionate about finding ways to encourage others to pour into their home.
I think what is interesting about my story is that I did not intend to step into blogging or home design & DIY. When my husband and I first bought our house, we knew nothing about houses. and had to learn a lot of things the hard way. Through the process of renovating our home and having our child, there is just something that ignited in me that felt compelled to share through blogging.
Alongside blogging, I have really enjoyed being able to connect my blog to our business Sandalwood Lane. My husband has been creating handmade wooden tables for clients and is now expanding into transforming homes through exterior paint, building decks, etc.
Whether it be blogging on Ways to Make Your Home Cozy or watching a client’s home transform, I love being a part, in some way, of cultivating a home culture of warmth and comfort.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely LOVE Grapevine Main Street. We would start out by booking a room at Hotel Vin, a historic boutique hotel right on Main Street with amazing restaurants on the bottom floor. After getting some rest and relaxation at the hotel, we would head down to the Farmer’s Market across the street. They always have the best fresh Sourdough! We would go get some sandwiches and soups for lunch at Mason and Dixie and then go grab a cupcake from Legacy Cakes. We would end the day off with Live Music on Main street and waltzing around all the cute little boutique stores And that’s JUST the first day. It’s a plus if you go during Christmastime since Grapevine Main Street is infamously known as the “Christmas Capital.”
I love Grapevine Main Street because it is a small town main street feel with all the local restaurants and shops yet it’s not in the middle of nowhere. It is just within minutes of Grapevine Vintage RailRoad, high quality restaurants, and Southlake Town Square shopping center.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my husband for being the best husband, best friend, and business partner. I am thankful for his business savvy mind and being alongside me as we tackle all things home!
