We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Layne Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea Layne, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
As a yoga instructor, I find joy in seeing students progress and being witness to their transformative experiences. Over the years, I have seen students embrace the practice of yoga on, and off the mat. When you’re witness to someone’s personal relationship and dedication to the practice, it is exceedingly rewarding. I am grateful to be able to work closely with private clients to help them find relief from pain and discomfort through personalized stretching and breath work. Few things are more gratifying than taking part in increasing another persons quality of life. The community that yoga creates is truly life-changing and healing. I am happy to take part- even a small part- in that.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a corporate, private and group yoga instructor. I have a Bachelors in Business Administration and a Masters in Sales and Marketing. I have managed to find a cohesive blend of my two passions. My love for yoga and my drive to be successful have provided me motivation and discipline to create a successful brand. It was not an easy choice to change trajectory after graduate school to become a yoga instructor full time. I felt as though I was giving up on a chance for a stable corporate job for a future of insecurity. I knew it was going to be difficult and I would be met with a lot of rejection but I felt confident in my ability to adapt. I would give myself a goal and when that goal was met, I would set forth bigger ones. It felt like I was climbing a mountain one small hill at a time. I learned that rejection was an opportunity for growth and I had to ensure that I never got caught up in the game of comparison. My experience is unique and there is value in that. I would like the world to know that I chose the path I felt most drawn to and I will continue to help pave that path for others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For the first day/evening, I would take them to bishop arts so that we could indulge in some donuts and coffee at The Salty Donut. After breakfast, we would walk around bishop arts and be sure to stop into my favorite bookstore, Wild Detectives and scour the employee recommendations table. When it was time for lunch, we would head to the farmers market and pick from one of the amazing spots inside to eat. That evening, we would go into the design district to either bowl a few games at Bowlounge or play arcade games at Ciderade. You cannot go wrong with either.

For another full day of activities, I would start with avocado toast and a matcha latte at La La Land cafe and then hit up a pilates or yoga class. My favorite pilates studios are Studio 6 or Bodybar. Post workout, you cannot go wrong with a foot massage at YiYi foot spa. Later that night, I would grab a delightful cheese board from Fount and Board and make a mini picnic at a drive in movie. My two favorites are Coyote Drive in or go old school at Galaxy in Ennis.

Other notable stops:
Shop antiques and funky vintage items in the design district
Jazz music at Terrellis or Balcony Club
Kings spa or spa castle for a day of soaking
Burlesque show, hopefully showcasing my friend Courtney Crave

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my fellow yoga instructors who inspired my love for yoga and encouraged me to spread the love to others.
