We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad Delafield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chad, what are you inspired by?
I love a good story, so for me, inspiration comes in many forms: a song, a film, a piece of art, friends and colleagues, a sunset. There is so much beauty and sadness in our everyday world, it’s difficult not to be inspired.

A lyric in a song or a line from a movie is all inspiration for a story or emotion to begin unfolding. The struggles we all face and how we as humans cope with and resolve them sometimes serve as the biggest influence and inspiration of all.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music (Goodbye, Farewell) began over 14 years ago as a passion project – I was in a bedroom band with my best friend Dustin, making our version of post-hardcore. After finding so many incredible singer-songwriter artists on MySpace I felt inspired to create acoustic music myself! It was only a matter of time before life got too busy and took over.

Some years later inspiration struck again! I resurrected Goodbye, Farewell in 2019, began recording and had released my first single with an accompanying music video on Valentine’s Day of 2020! Like many others, the pandemic stopped me in my tracks right when I was getting started.

One of the biggest rewards so far, (but also one of the biggest challenges) has been the ability to grow relationships and promote my music via social media. Things have evolved so much over the years since I started this passion, and while it can be challenging to navigate at times, it allows us the opportunity to connect and grow with other artists and fans alike; to help promote local bands and support local venues.

At the start of quarantine I hosted a virtual concert with some local DFW musicians and titled it the “Sadboi Sofa Sessions”. Since then I have been performing all around DFW, showcasing my acoustic emo songs in many ‘all-genre’ concerts.

I am here to keep the spirit and culture of the Emo movement alive. I’ve been through the rise and fall, the death and the rebirth; I was inspired when Myspace Emo had the spotlight and now in the revival it’s my turn to inspire.

My third single released this April with a few more singles on the horizon and my EP release coming in Fall!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Dallas-Fort Worth area has some pretty interesting places, both hidden and well known:

Monday would be all day at the DMA with a break for lunch across the street at one of the many resident food trucks at Klyde Warren Park.

Tuesday would be spent at ZT Records in Stonebriar, a walk around the mall and then Texas Theater for “Tuesday Night Trash” movies.

Wednesday we’d spend the whole day hiking around the Glen Rose Dinosaur Valley state park.

We’d have a “Throwback Thursday” looking at old school collectables at Dallas Vintage Toys and then an evening at any of the Free Play locations for an amazing selection of beers and arcade games.

Friday would be spent at the Dallas World Aquarium for some aquatic fun and then probably The Granada Theater for a killer live show.

Saturday starts at Ft Worth Botanical Gardens then over to either False Idol or Martin House Brewery to check out what Cera Crafts Co and other awesome locals have for their Art Market days.

Sunday would begin at Dallas Farmers Market for some perusing and a killer brunch then finish off the week at Breaking Brew Meadery for a few flights of delicious mead.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to thank my beautiful wife Penny who supports and encourages me in everything I do; I wouldn’t be where I am without you.

Thank you to my family as a whole, but more specifically: my Mom for letting me learn on her acoustic guitar, my Dad for coming out to every performance and my brother Cory for vetting all of my early demos.

A very big thank you to ‘The Lunch Crew’, the Backmannequin boys, along with all of my wonderful friends and fans who have supported me on my journey!

Shout-out to all the musicians and bands that I’ve shared the stage with; to every photographer that has captured my likeness, energy and passion; and of course to the homies at DIE (Dallas Independent Entertainment) and No Hope For Alderaan Productions for giving me a chance and putting me on so many killer lineups.

Last but certainly not least, an enormous shout-out goes to one of my best friends, my digital pen-pal and my producer Nik at Frostbound Studios. I don’t know how far I would have gotten without you pushing me to improve and think outside the box.
