We had the good fortune of connecting with Celso & Jessica Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Celso & Jessica, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Having a family and becoming a small business owner definitely comes with its challenges. Learning how to balance work and life has been an obstacle that over time we have been able to successfully improve on. Prioritizing our kids and creating schedules that allow us to solely focus on family time has been part of the reason why we are able to run a successful small business. It allows us to refresh, reenergize and bring the best of ourselves into our business. After being in business for over two years we are now starting to set boundaries and create specific business hours. After successfully being in business the past couple of years we are happy about the progress we have made.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
DFW Wood Creations provides a variety of woodworking services that range from cake toppers. centerpieces, marquees, plinths, backdrops and intricate cutouts/ designs for events or photo studios. We also create wood trays, mobile carts , bars, store display fixtures and a variety of other items that are designed and built in house by my husband and myself. Our business journey has not been an easy road we have been faced with self doubt, rejection , exhaustion and we have even at one point considered ending our business journey. However our kids, family and friends along with some amazing clients who have became wonderful friends are what continue to give us drive and determination. If there is one thing we can share with the world it is that there is no easy way or one way to begin a business. Everyone will have a different story and journey but every business owner has the will and drive to better themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Having relocated from out of state and being fairly new to the area we are still exploring the amazing DFW area. Breakfast at Our Place Restaurant in Mansfield, TX is definitely a must do. They have an incredible extensive menu , amazing food and even better customer service. We would also highly recommend El Guero Carnitas y Barbacoa located in Mansfield. They have some amazing Traditional Mexican food. This place brings back childhood memories and makes us feel at home. We also highly recommend hanging out for a day of fun and games at chicken and pickle in grand prairie and staying for the amazing illuvia water and light show that includes incredible projections. Our last stop is a must when visiting the DFW area. The stockyards in Fort Worth, TX are a fun and unique way to experience Old Western history.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to thank our family for helping us during our busiest times of the year. Without hesitation when they are in town they are always ready and willing to help in any way possible. Most importantly we would like to dedicate this shoutout to our three kids Marc, Ariyannah and Allyah who are the motor, heart, soul and the main reason for the existence of DFW Wood Creations. When times have gotten tough our kids are who have helped us keep pushing forward.
