Hi Cara, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Other than deciding to work for myself, the single most important decision I made that contributed to my success was implementing systems in our business. Systems are crucial because they create a structure that allows for consistent performance, streamlined operations, and efficient management of resources. By establishing clear systems, we were able to scale our business more effectively, maintain the quality of our products, and ensure excellent customer service. Having well-defined systems in place enabled us to adapt and pivot when necessary, such as during periods of rapid growth or unforeseen challenges. This decision has been instrumental in our success, as it has provided a solid foundation for the continuous improvement and expansion of our business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Reflecting on my professional journey, I realize that every position I have held contributed to shaping me as a leader in my own company. My years spent in retail leadership taught me the importance of supervising people, meeting goals, managing inventory, and delivering exceptional customer service. These experiences have set high standards for Southern Roots Vegan Bakery, and I expect the same level of dedication and excellence from my team.

Working in corporate healthcare exposed me to various systems that enhanced productivity and facilitated data analysis. Implementing these systems within our business has greatly improved our behind-the-scenes operations, allowing us to better serve our customers. Additionally, my experience working with Medicare and Medicaid members ignited my passion for senior care, which aligns with the vision for our other businesses.

Southern Roots Vegan Bakery, Cielo Scoops, and Caregiving From Home all share a common goal of leaving a legacy that positively impacts seniors. Our journey hasn’t always been easy, but overcoming challenges has taught us valuable lessons about perseverance, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to our vision.

I want the world to know that our brand and story embody dedication, compassion, and a commitment to making a difference in people’s lives. We strive to provide the highest quality products and services while promoting a plant-based lifestyle that benefits both our customers and the environment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were in town and I wanted to ensure they had an unforgettable experience, I’d first take them to the Riverwalk for a picturesque boat ride, immersing them in the local sights and atmosphere. Afterward, we’d stroll around The Pearl, capturing memories through photos amidst the vibrant surroundings. For a mouthwatering dining experience, I’d introduce them to Binge Kitchen, where they can savor scrumptious vegan soul food that doesn’t compromise on taste. And to top it off, I’d treat them to delectable desserts from Southern Roots Vegan Bakery and indulgent gourmet ice cream from Cielo Scoops, offering a sweet finale to a memorable day spent together.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We wholeheartedly want to acknowledge Ryan Salts and the entire Launch SA staff. The resources and mentorship provided by Launch SA have been instrumental in the growth and development of our business. Receiving constructive, real-time feedback from individuals who genuinely want to see us succeed, without any ulterior motives, has truly been a blessing.
