We had the good fortune of connecting with Cam B. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cam, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Cameron (Cam B.) SEVIT

I hail from Dallas, but my upbringing was marked by constant relocation, leading me to traverse different cities. Music has been my steadfast companion since childhood, providing solace and a means of connection. However, my journey wasn’t without its challenges; I endured relentless teasing due to my learning difficulties and social awkwardness stemming from being on the spectrum. Nevertheless, I persevered, teaching myself music and forming my first band at just 18. Since then, I’ve been steadfast in my pursuit of sharing my music on a broader platform. My upbringing instilled in me a sense of resilience, street smarts, and unwavering determination, shaping me into the individual I am today. SEVIT was initially founded by me, later joined by Brian, followed by Mario and Maddie, completing the current lineup of our band.

SEVIT’s Beginning and Background

We’re a band of multi-talented musicians, each proficient in playing two or three instruments, though we have designated roles within the group. Mario and I shoulder most of the songwriting responsibilities, with additional contributions from Brian and Maddie. Our musical influences are diverse, ranging from the raw energy of 70s Punk and Glam to the atmospheric sounds of 80s Alternative, often called Goth Music, and spanning all decades and contemporary revival genres. People describe us as Goth or Darkwave but we tend to call SEVIT dark synth rock.

Personally, my musical journey has been deeply influenced by a childhood immersed in a wide array of genres, particularly soundtrack music. Pioneers like Klaus Schulze, Wendy Carlos, and Vangelis have left an indelible mark on my musical sensibilities. My extensive collection of vinyl records, gathered over the years, reflects my eclectic taste and has played a pivotal role in shaping the open-minded approach that defines both SEVIT’s sound and musical creations but a lot of my musical and SEVIT’s musical influences were pulled from the 80s alternative decade and, early rock from the 60s and 70s.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Cam B. / SEVIT

I’ve always been what some might call a “weird bird,” with a mind that constantly sees things from a unique perspective. Growing up with Asperger’s, my brain tends to be in overdrive, constantly churning with ideas. From a young age, I found solace in creating, turning to art as a means of expressing my boundless creativity.

When I was eight, my parents gifted me a beat-up drum kit, which became the starting point of my musical journey. Piece by piece, I assembled my own unique setup, delving into the mechanics of each component. My fascination with electronic drums led me to the Mattel Synsonic, a toy with professional capabilities that sparked my interest in electronics. With the help of my dad and countless hours of lawn mowing, I acquired my first synthesizer, the Casio CZ-5000, opening the door to a world of programmable sounds and MIDI technology.

This newfound passion ignited a deep dive into the realm of synthesizers, where I discovered the groundbreaking work of bands like Depeche Mode, OMD, Devo, and The Cars, as well as the cinematic magic of “TRON.” My mind became a sponge, soaking up every detail of beat-driven music, atmospheric landscapes, and the mesmerizing world of bleeps and bloops. This journey of exploration and discovery ultimately paved the way for the eclectic sound of SEVIT that you hear today.

SEVIT’s live performances are renowned for their uniqueness and constant evolution. We’re always pushing boundaries, infusing our sets with unexpected elements to keep the audience engaged and mesmerized. Whether it’s introducing soundscapes or themed intros, our goal is to showcase that we’re not your typical local garage band.

One distinctive aspect of our live shows is the absence of a traditional drummer on stage. Instead, I handle all the drum mechanics and programming, adding a dynamic layer to our sound. While we’ve worked with drummers in the past, our current setup operates like a well-oiled machine. That said, we’re always open to collaboration, and if the right individual comes along with the right attitude and talent, we’re certainly open to exploring new possibilities. Until then, SEVIT continues to innovate and captivate audiences with our unconventional approach to performance.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take you on a tour of our local bars, each with its own vibe (Charlies Star Loung, Lee Harveys). Then we’d hit up our favorite restaurants Terilli’s and The Londoner to enjoy the flavors of our city. Despite our busy schedules with shows, DJ gigs, and Flea Harvey’s our local Flea Market we put on, I’m excited to share these experiences with you.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to express my deepest gratitude to my mother and grandmother for their constant encouragement, especially during the most challenging moments. Their wisdom and support have been my rock, reminding me to stay resilient in adversity. Additionally, I owe a massive shoutout to my bandmates, who have been with me through the highs and lows, navigating the journey with unwavering support and understanding without strangling me.
