We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Carmichael and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is HANDS DOWN my mindset. I’m fueled by passion and determination and those make for a powerful combo to break through fear and self-doubt. I’m extremely fierce with my schedule (aka boundaries) and commit to taking consistent action towards things that inspire me. I balance work with rest and play and don’t take “no” for an answer.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up in a small country town with no college degree and hit 6 figures as a hairstylist in my first year. I share this because it doesn’t matter where you come from or how well off you are or aren’t. What matters is that you follow your passion and what lights you up. If you’re going to spend decades of your life working then make sure it’s doing something that taps into your natural talents, curiosities, and passions. Success comes from finding out what you love to do and then offering that to the world in a way that helps or inspires others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our first stop would have to be spa day at the Joule followed by V Eats my all-time favorite vegan spot in Trinity Groves. Flowers are my love language so we’d definitely hit up the Dallas Arboretum or take an evening stroll at Arbor Hills in Plano followed by dinner at True Food Kitchen at Legacy West. I always like to culture my guests so we’d definitely hit up Modern Thai Massage in Frisco along with my favorite Indian buffet at Chennai Cafe or Dimassi’s Mediterranean. Since I live at The Star in Frisco, we’d have to talk a walk through this immersive experience and end with some pizza from Cane Rosso or yard games at Trophy Park. I love to surprise my guests with yummy morning treats so I’d pick up some vegan donuts and breakfast sammies from Reverie Bakeshop in Richardson. Most friends who visit me also want to take a trip to my luxury vegan salon, OMGhairstyles, to be treated and pampered to gorgeous hair so after a long day at work, I’m ending at Nuno’s Tacos in Richardson for the best damn vegan food I’ve ever had.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to all the haters along the way that only encouraged my tenacity. No, in all seriousness, my mom deserves a massive shoutout! Not only did she birth me and put up with my wild spirit, but she is also my greatest inspiration behind all that I do to empower women to be their most badass self. My mom taught me everything from how to do hair to how to make people feel loved, seen, and understood. She always opened her heart and her home to anyone who needed it. In 2012 she suffered a paralyzing stroke that caused her to lose speech and mobility. After months of physical therapy and applying that hardcore determination to get better, she finally was able to answer the question that changed everything. “Why did you do this to yourself?” Her reply stunned me: “Because everybody needed something from me.” I knew right then and there if I didn’t start taking care of myself first and create better boundaries, I would surely fall in her footsteps. Because of the miracle I witnessed with my mom learning to talk and walk again, I’m now on a mission to help other women reclaim their power before they burnout.
