We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittani Stone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittani, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I personally believe everything we go through has its purpose in this journey called life. If I pursue something, it’s because I have a passion for it; so I never count myself out until I try. Once I’ve given my all to the opportunity and it does not work out in my favor, that is when I give myself time to reflect and move on. However, I do stand up for myself if I feel that I was not given a fair chance. I feel that everyone comes to a point where they must evaluate the situation and figure out if is worth continuing. I pray about the situation, write out the pros and cons, and get the opinions from those I trust. If leaving the situation outweighs staying then I am thankful for the opportunity, recognized the skills earned, and move on. I never see it as giving up per se but recognizing everything is not for everyone and that what is for you will not pass you by.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the Founder of A. Rose Nonprofit. The organization was established in July of 2018. This organization has been a labor of lovers for over 11 years. Even before going public with the idea the organization’s goal, mission, and visual has never changed. At A. Rose Nonprofit we focus on eliminating the gaps in health resources in the African American community. Through my educational training, I was introduced to the concepts of social determines of health. What this pertains to are all the factors in one’s life that contribute to their health. Health is not only the absents of an illness or disease, but health also includes outside factors such as where you live, income, education level, and how you socialize. Although we do not render any direct service, we strive to create an environment that is assessable to those in need.
Currently, I am overwhelmed with excitement regarding the growth that is occurring within our organization. We have gained so many resources and recognition over the years. It amazes me how I can translate the passion that I have for making sure that no matter the situation no one goes without due to their life circumstances.
Getting to this point was not easy, I feel like there will always be challenges however, I feel that your attitude contributes a lot to how you handle something. I take a break when I feel overwhelmed. I am still learning how to ask for help, but I have gotten better. And I am learning how to not be so hard on myself.
I know that we still have a lot of growing to do and there is so much more that I have planned to grow the organization. This organization is a huge part of who I am personally. I am a healthcare professional by trade so servicing others is a big part of what brings me joy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a transplant to Dallas and don’t get out much. I’m not sure I’ll be able to answer this question with an “exciting” enough answer for the readers.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my mom, grandmother, great aunt, and great grandmother. Without their everlasting love and support, I would not have the courage to go after my passions. I want to also thank Fieldcrest School of Performing Arts and the facility and staff at Arthur Dixon Elementary. They have provided me with experience, lifelong friendships and so much more. Outside of my family, they contributed greatly to the woman I am today.
