We had the good fortune of connecting with Bri Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bri, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a baker I believe that all treats are created equal, but bundt cakes & brownies are a step above the rest. So when I started my baking business I wanted to think of ways to make my business outshine the rest. I thought to myself “what treats could I create in a fun and exciting way?” Then while shopping one day, I noticed that Oreo cookies were being made into all different types of dessert and just like that, I had my light bulb moment in the middle of aisle 9. “I love brownies. I am almost certain that everyone loves brownies, but do brownies always have to be… brown? Why can’t we enjoy the texture of brownies in multiple flavors?” This is when I decided to focus my business mainly on bundt cakes & brownies. My bundt cakes are the classics and my brownies are the remix. I still make plenty of other treats by request, but I enjoy baking bundts & brownies the most. I’ve recently became a vendor for the MLK Food Park and will be there every weekend in April, so please stop by and grab some treats! I also accept order via Text 214-856-0107 or on IG: @_BrisBakes.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My favorite thing about my business is watching people enjoy my treats. I love to feed people and I love how food can change your entire mood. I am most proud of my business when I get compliments like “this cake is better than my grandma’s” or “OMG this taste just like something my mom used to bake.” That really warms my heart to know I’ve reached OG status (Original Grandma) without having any children. I am most excited about new vendor opportunities that are coming my way and finding more ways to expand Bri’s Bakes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Things you MUST do in Dallas:
Picnic at Rochester Park
Eat at all of the mom & pop spots: Louisiana Catfish, H&J BBQ, Keller’s
Maybe catch a movie at the Drive In (technically in Ennis)
Ride a Beer Bike in Uptown
Play games at Kung Fu Saloon
Find a pool party to crash
Stop by the MLK Food Park
Farmer’s Market on a Sunday
Paint Jam with Vee Faye
Open Mic at Free Man’s or Prophet Bar
Bottomless Mimosas somewhere
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank a few people: My Mama for loving me and for buying my mixer!
My Boyfriend for always motivating me to be the best at my craft.
My Best Friend for providing constant support and clientele over the years.
My Grandma for showing me how to bake a cake.
I’d also like to thank Desiree Powell and The Better Block for this opportunity to be a vendor at the MLK Food Park.
