We had the good fortune of connecting with Billy Weathers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Billy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I became more honest with myself. I realized how much I still had left to give, and not only that, but how much I really desired from this life. Balance wasn’t and still isn’t realistic is some sense. I’m obsessed with a vision in my head, and the only way to satisfy that craving, was to turn my entire life into a mechanism that could chase that rabbit on a daily basis. Cutting distractions and becoming more disciplined is what helped to shift bad habits into productive ones.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love the process of creation. Not sure if that’s what “sets me apart” but I do believe it’s why I’m still going at it. I love each aspect from start to finish. Whether it’s a show, event, album release, merch drop or rollout. I love the sitting at the table to formulating a plan. Going to the drawing board and asking WHY! I love the trial and error period, and figuring out that IT factor. I love collaborating with ideas and resources for a better overall product! It’s quite fulfilling to see a dream go from scattered and beautiful thoughts to well executed and outstanding results.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d have to hit Ledges State Park in Boone. Easily my favorite place to hike and get a little lost. Have to hike off the beaten path for the best results however. I’d go to Lachele’s and Panka on Ingersol. I’d hit Basic Bird on Sunday from 4-8 pm at Harbinger. I’d for sure be at Hello Marjorie on a Tuesday for their happy hour. I’d be at 85 Bar in the East Village on a Saturday night. Happy hour at Eatery A during the week is a must. Have to hit the farmers market (early, before 10). I’d see a jazz show at Noce on Thursday night. Stay at the Surety Hotel overnight. Slide by the skatepark, just to admire the work. And have to slide by Blu Thai and Sushi (the OG one though) and also The Walnut.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents and my team deserve everything. They’re why I work like I do. I feel as if I owe it to them to get what they help me to chase. It’s a far from a one man show, and for sure a collective goal and vision.
