We had the good fortune of connecting with Baily Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Baily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to make something more of myself. I knew I had a strong voice and point of view, and thought “why not?” Creating my own magazine and business has allowed me to see what I’m capable of, and nothing can hold back my drive.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a model for over three years and counting, and now I am co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of my very own magazine. I am so proud to showcase amazing and diverse work in my magazine, and I’m so thankful to have such an outstanding team alongside me. We believe talent comes from all backgrounds. We aim to give a voice to those that are otherwise overlooked sometimes in the industry. Creating your own business is never easy. You’ll always face new challenges you’ve never dealt with before, and it can be scary to navigate through it all by yourself. It’s important in times like these to just take a step back and BREATHE. You’ll figure it out, and you’ll be proud of yourself for doing so. I’ve learned that it’s important to be flexible. Give yourself and your team plenty of time to get work done. Things happen, and you need to prepare for having to push back deadlines. It will also relieve a lot of stress from you knowing you’ve given yourself some wiggle room to figure things out. I want the world to know that Vision Magazine is authentic. We celebrate all kinds of talent in the arts. We’ve witnessed the fashion and creative industry be oppressive, and we aim to BE the change, not just hope for it. Vision Magazine represents the progressive future of the fashion and the arts world. We can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I personally LOVE art museums, so I would suggest to visit the Dallas Art Museum. It’s also located right next to Klyde Warren Park, which has amazing food trucks and lots of dogs! I also adore lower Greenville. Probably my favorite restaurant that is so unique to Dallas is an Italian place called Terilli’s. They even have “Italchos” which are Italian style nachos! It’s pizza on a chip! Also with amazing desserts, wine, and a rooftop area to look out over the city, you can’t go wrong! Dallas just has so much charm everywhere, it’s hard to just pick a few places!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely couldn’t have created this without my amazing team at Vision Magazine. Dimitri, Yasmeen, Brittany, Steven: THANK YOU. You all have given me confidence and courage I never knew I had. Shoutout to the amazing people I’ve worked with in my modeling career over the years, and the people I will work with in the future. Those that have always believed in me, and those that didn’t. You gave me a drive to prove you wrong. So many people, places, and media I could shoutout here. All of it makes me who I am today.
