We had the good fortune of connecting with Astro Giirl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Astro, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because i think art heals the soul. To create something from scratch is to implement all of the feelings you had during the process, whether that’s sadness, happiness, frustration or confusion. To see the end result is most fulfilling and to put that energy back into the world so other can feel or curate their own perspective is enthralling.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I try my best to let people into my mind with my art. Being vulnerable was never something easy for me but over time I have grown to love it. I have been singing since I was 5 years old in the church choir and since then I have always looked at singing as a way to escape. Now, more than 20 years later it has become my superpower. It has not been easy showing the world my full self, it’s been a struggle if I am being honest but I’ve learned that the best things in life are NEVER easy. With hard work and dedication anything is possible and the sky is never the limit. For anyone that has never heard of me, I have one thing that I live by, and for you to remember. Love is the most powerful action. Love moves mountains, love shakes the world, so give as much as you can before it’s all over. It will define you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas holds a special place in my heart. There is so much to do on any given day. I’d suggest going to deep Ellum to catch a live show at Ruins, Club DaDa, or The green elephant. The food is everything as well for a good taco id suggest Twisted Tropmo, if you’re looking for some comfort food Norma’s is the best in the city and if your looking for food, drinks, and a dance floor I’d suggest Kiss.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are multiple people I could name but to sum it up my delightful mother, The Fronto Factory, and the founder of The Fronto Factory, late Fiji Tree are who I give the most credit to. My mother has always encouraged me to be whoever and whatever I wanted to be. She has been my rock and inspiration since I was a child. For her I am forever grateful. The Fronto Factory has been behind me since I started and have always encouraged me to put my best foot forward. They have inspired me to break out of my shell and show the world exactly who I am. I hold them very close to my heart.
