We had the good fortune of connecting with Artë Retkoceri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Artë, what’s your definition for success?
I believe that each of us has the capability of being successful. Nonetheless, nowadays success is mainly defined as having more money or more material things, and in that sense not all can be as successful. However, the way I see it, success means having achieved your set goals, or reaching the point where you always wanted to be. Success means being happy with yourself, your life and surroundings, as well as satisfied with your work, family, career, or whatever field of life is the most important to you. In order to get there, I think that as individuals we have to also be continuously grateful, because only that way we can feel and enjoy better the success we have achieved.

I encountered 3D printing not in a very random way. I was hired to work as Learning Manager in a project for youth, which provided training and courses for university students. One of the activities of the project involved 3D printing. Nonetheless, there was no other person in the project or in the organization that worked with 3D printing, and since the printers were already purchased, I started learning how to print in them. Initially, it was extremely difficult, considering that I do not come from Engineering or Construction and Design fields, however I really started to get a handle on it, and started to love it. I was printing almost every day at work or whenever I could. In addition, I learned some simple 3D designing and now I use those skills that I developed gradually. Then, since I liked 3D printing a lot, I decided to buy a basic 3D printer to have it at home and start printing for people that want printed stuff, but do not have a printer. This became my hobby and my side job. Since I enjoyed it a lot, it did not feel like a burden, but like personal growth time.
When I came to US, I thought that it would be a great idea to continue the same; hence, I bought another more advanced printer and have been printing since then. Today I print diverse small and bigger prints, but the focus is to provide clients items that are personalized or that they cannot find in other places. For example: birthday or engagement cake toppers with names or initials are my favorites, and I love to design them and discuss with clients about the specifics of their print. Other printings include objects useful at home, bookmarks, jewelry boxes, coffee pod holders, keychains, wall decorations, architectural designs, but actually almost anything else in between, as 3D printing almost has no limits.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would initially recommend visiting Dallas Museum of Art, as it has a great collection of art from diverse periods and it is a really notable place to spend time at. Then, visiting Klyde Warren Park, is a must in the city of Dallas, as it characterized with special atmosphere, food trucks and surrounds you with plenty green color from the grass and trees, for proper relaxation. Other areas that are really worth visiting in the city of Dallas include Deep Ellum, and the surrounding areas, with a vibrating and lively neighborhood with several cool bars and clubs.
Then, in other evenings, we would go to Grandscape at Colony, either to one of the concerts that are offered during the week or weekend, or at the Puttery, as it is a great place to have a drink and play mini-golf. The visit could also be extended to the Grandscape Wheel, as a cool attraction that reminds you of London Eye.
In addition, one of the other evenings, I would recommend visiting Truck Yard at the Colony, which has a chill atmosphere and music, and, reminds you of a real back yard, but with more art and decorations.
For food, Legacy West at Plano offers plenty good restaurants and coffee places, and I would recommend Bulla Gastrobar – a Spanish restaurant with amazing food, Taverna – an Italian restaurant with great service and delicious dishes, and Amorino for the best gelato in the area. I also recommend eating at Spazo Restaurant at Allen city, which offers really amazing service and tasty Italian food for very good prices.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am forever and always grateful to my family, especially my parents for supporting me for almost in any step of my life, as well as advising and being the counselors whenever I needed help with. When it comes to working in HR both friends and family have supported me, knowing my personality and individual traits. As for working with 3D printing, all my close people have supported me, because they have witnessed my interest and personal investment in this field, so of course they believed this was a suitable craft for me. And of course, my partner Dardan, has fully supported me to continue working with 3D printing, by encouraging me, supporting me financially with basic tools and equipment, and brainstorming ideas for better reach with my business.
