Meet Arden Moore: The Pet Health and Safety Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Arden Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arden, what can you share with us about hwo Covid-19 has affected your business?
I happily wear many ‘collars’ in the pet world — pet first aid instructor, radio show host, author, cat/dog behavior expert and in-demand speaker at conferences. Covid-19 elimnate any in-person classes or talks or conferences that were scheduled for the spring 2020 and likely through the summer. I am unique because as a master certified pet first aid instructor, I team up with Pet Safety Dog Kona and Pet Safety Cat Casey (yes, a very tolerant orange tabby) in my hands-on classes. We are now teaching classes via ZOOM.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My last name does aptly indicate my career approach: Moore. I began as a daily newspaper reporter/editor, moved into magazine publishing and 20 years ago, took the leap from the W-2 world to launch my own business of writing, teaching and hosting a podcast. It hasn’t been easy and I’ve had to learn to adapt to changes, new clients and being opening to let go of the safe routines to learn new skills. I like being able to be creative in different ways — from writing cover stories for leading pet publications, to being a keynote speaker at a major pet conference, to hosting pet-championing celebrites on my Oh Behave Show on Pet Life Radio, to writing dog and cat books and finally and most fulfilling, being able to teach people of all ages how to perform pet first aid/CPR in a practical way. I believe people learn best when they feel safe and happy. So, I make sure we have some fun learning in our pet first aid class. What makes my classes set apart is that I team up with the cat-dog duo of Casey and Kona, These shelter ‘alums’ bring their A games to every class and every conference we attend. Secondly, I created a concept called “Unleash Your Inner Muttgyver’ — it covers how to use clothing, things around you to render aid to an injured dog or cat when you don’t have a pet first aid kit and a veterinary clinic is far away. Finally, I hope the world knows that I do my bes every day to live my motto; “Bringing out the best in pets…and their people.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently had a dear friend from San Diego visit me in Dallas. She is like as I jokingly say, “a sister from a different womb.’ During her stay, I did my best to prioritize what she likes and be open and flexible in our schedule for any spontaneous outings. So, I made sure to take her to my favorite sushi bar (she and I met at a sushi bar years ago), and to have her sample real Texan bbq. We booked time to visit some of the must-see Dallas attractions, including the arboretum, Kennedy museum and Reunion Tower. I introduced her to some friends here for happy hours and we took a few walks with my dogs. She is also a dog lover. Finally, we would just chill — without a schedule — and enjoy watching a TV show or hanging out (weather-permitting) in my big, fenced back yard with a shaded porch. Friends are the biggest asset we have — they deserve to be treated with respect and gratitude.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I extend grateful ‘paws and applause’ to my business manager, Erin Fenstermacher, my patient and fun family and my four-legged teaching team of Pet Safety Dog Kona and Pet Safety Cat Casey. All of them have ensured that I maintain my sense of humor and my sense of purpose as we plow through unchartered territory in the COVID-19 era.
