We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anne, did college have a meaningful and positive impact for you?
NO! haha I have an associates and three trade degrees and none of them have came into play or helped me in my business. Now, that being said, my business you do not have to have a degree to groom. So, I am sure in other industry you need some type of degree, but college did not help me in my journey. I do not think you have to spend the money and time to “just” have a degree just to have one. Only need to go if you have a set plane.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I own a professional dog grooming and self service dog wash. We book by appointments and work the dogs straight through. Meaning, we bathe, dry, groom and then they are ready to go. So, the pups only spend an hour to two hours (depending on the breed) and can go home. Majority of grooming shop keep the dogs all day. So, less stress for the animal and the humans. We also spend one on one time with the pups parents before and after every appointment. We have a very close relationship with our clients and their owners, Dogs are family members and we need to have every trust and belief that when their dog is dropped off they will be 100% taken care of in the best professional manner. Everyone of my employees knows every dog and owner that walks in, their haircut and behavior, even if they have never groomed the dog. We post pictures everyday to keep the clients involved and just try to help top notch customers service all the time. We keep our place ridiculously clean and try to keep up with all the latest trends. The hardest part for us lately, is we have not been able to take new clients. We have even gotten to a point we can not take a new dog if our current client gets a new dog. Finding new help is always a challenge. It is hard to find someone that will take on the passion and hard work that we put in. Luckily, I have a core group of girls that have been with me for four years.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well Mexican restaurants are the bomb around my area so definitely out to eat. Axe throwing is a must! We have bowling, all major sporting events, Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor. Concerts, honky tonk (Billy Bob’s Texas for sure), dancing, Some of the best shopping malls around. So, really depends on how low key or exciting my friend would want to get.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh man! So many people! God, family, friends, employees , my clients! I also, live off Dave Ramsey Entreleadership and Craig Groeschel leadership podcast. I read, listen, watch anything I can on small business and leadership! You can ALWAYS learn from others who have been through what you have been or what you are going through!
