We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Verive and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I am an artist and I am happiest when I am creating something beautiful. I started out as a portrait artist which is what made me feel like makeup artistry would be my absolute favorite thing ever and I was right. It was one thing to apply techniques to myself, but when I started giving makeovers to friends and girls in highschool who wanted a beauty mentor, it became so rewarding. My dream was to go to cosmetology school after highschool, but I went to college and studied art and business. Then, in my mid 30’s I went back to school to become an Esthetician. In between that time I became a huge advocate for living a healthy lifestyle, and learned so much about nutrition that I felt being an Aesthetician would be the perfect bridge between health, wellness and beauty. So I created a business to offer ways to achieve skin health, and beauty throughout my skills and knowledge.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The foundation of who I am as a person and what sets me a part as a makeup artist specifically is my natural artistic ability, specifically when it comes to faces. My later passion for health and nutrition fueled my desire to learn the skin science and health side. I have a unique passion for getting to the root cause of things, and my grasp and experience with things like healing your gut and working on the more medical aesthetics side has been very helpful for so many reasons. Many lasting results require a deep dive into what is going on underneath the skin. So I have a good grasp of identifying things and then referring clients out to other resources to help address those if need be, or treating clients with a treatment that is more effective than what I am able to provide. My genuine desire is to help each person in the most effective way possible. If I don’t specialize in their needs, I know enough to send them to someone who does.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely be checking out Dallas. There’s so much to see and do there. I love uptown. However even I haven’t explored everything I would like to in Dallas. The Frisco Star is pretty awesome too. We would definitely hit up downtown McKinney. I love antique and boutique shops. We would definitely be hitting up both places for some good tacos and margaritas and some steaks are always a must! I’m from Chicago so Portillo’s is pretty much a given if you are coming to visit me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many ladies who have been a part of my journey. From way back doing this in highschool, some of my classmates from Timothy Christian (in Elmhurst, IL) were the first people to sit in my chair. Makeup First in Chicago held a bridal makeup class with the famous Roberto Casey. In Aesthetics school we had the lovely Ava Rhodes show us how to do airbrush. Since moving to Texas I was fortunate to find the best Med Spa to not only patronize but also end up starting my business at. Shout out to Med Spa Studios. The lovely Carla Bedford was one of my favorite mentors yet. I also got connected with Nature Nurtured Co. where Mary Seymour took over my website and instagram and came up with the gameplan to get things rolling.

Last but not least, my mom, Grandma and Aunts as well as siblings and best friends all helped by showing up for me when I opened my first location, before the pandemic. Their love and support has always meant so much! However, none of this would be possible without my husband arranging ways to help me with technology and streamlining things. I work hard for the success of our family but feel fortunate to have the ability to do it, doing what I love, for those I love.
