We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelia Douse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amelia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I love this question due to the relevance it serves in my life at the moment. As an owner of several businesses and being a member of a team, I found myself being a giver of self to everyone BUT myself. With the radio station, whereas I was supposed to run it, I let it run me. There was no balance and I poured myself completely into building someone else’s dreams. With the recent changes in my life I was faced with the decision to give up on the station or keep going. With the recent changes in my life, ( divorce, relocation, basically starting over) I have come to the realization that I never really had any balance or boundaries. I was consumed with business all of the time. I took a break and took time for me, to get myself and my family in order. There are a handful of people think I am gone, but I am still here…I have just been quiet. I am focusing on ME and my overall well being. Droves of people miss out on that trying to live for and please others. I feel balance is very important in life. Not only does it keep me from tipping the scales it keeps me balanced and that is important for my mental, emotional and physical health.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
PSPMG Radio! (formerly Dark Phoenix Radio) is a voice for the people who are truly struggling to be heard. Here is Dallas there are lot of people who hold knowledge for elevation, but withhold it from people out of fear of someone else becoming greater than they are and or were. This makes it difficult for artists to excel in the industry. I wont even address the crabs in a bucket syndrome either, but it is at times as amusing as it it motivating. We provide a platform for artist to have their music heard and critiqued. We teach artist how to get all of their paperwork in order to earn money from what they do. Otherwise it is just volunteer work, is it not? We hold artist retreats to give artists the opportunity to truly hone in on their craft. From studio etiquette to EPK creation. We offer these services to the public. This certainly is NOT an easy road, but I don’t regret the path I am on. I have had people fall off and pull back out of lack of understanding to my situation and have even been disrespected in a room of my peers, by people who are self proclaimed “pioneers” in the industry. It is difficult for me, because as a female in this industry I am expected to sit silently and accept whatever is said or dine in regards to me as well as my business. Unfortunately, being docile has always been an issue for me! Even in the moments when I have felt like throwing in the towel, my circle kept me motivated and EVERYTIME I look at them I know I am on the right path doing the right thing. Bad things happen to us in life, but I understand that I am the creator of my destiny and I am walking into with my head held high, with the egg on my face and all. PSPMG Radio is a consociation to help others succeed in an industry where many have been known to fail. From PSPMG Radio! to PSPMG Media to PSPMG Gaming we are determined to leave our mark on the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hilarious… everyone that knows me knows I am funny about food. For an A1 experience we would go to Tru Kitchen & Kocktails for food and drinks. It is a whole entire vibe. Best food hands down! We would hang out in Deep Ellum at the Freeman. I love the vibe in there it is raw and real and the musicians touch your soul. I love live sets. I would have to find out where Anastasia The Bold and RJ Prince would be performing comedy because I am goofball and love to laugh. If y’all are ever here, you GOTTA check them out!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
