We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The very first thought when I started my business was freedom. I would be able to see my kids grow up and enjoy doing things with my family and friends and create my own income.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hair is art and and every one has a hair story. If someone is going through something and they want a change or want to get feel new, they always start with a haircut. People feel better when they look good. I try and make sure the style that someone wants will go with there lifestyle and that they can keep it up. I am always a fan of trying new things and never scared of sharing my hair stories with my customers or followers. I want them to know we all go through things if its a sickness, a identity crisis , a breakup a new job you are going to want. to enhance your look.
I thought that as long as you have a dream your dream will make you money so I quit my job and put my all into my business big mistake. I didn’t think about how I was going to fund it, I didn’t think about the periods when you are slow, I didn’t think about growing clientele. I lost a lot a couple of times so I had to get a new plan and learn from my mistakes. I had a salon owner tell me Ams you will make money but it will take you 5 yrs to see it, and he was so right my fifth year I started seen my return on my investment.
I want the world that know and especially my kids to know you can have it all the world is your catalog and what ever you ask God for he will give it to you. Faith and hardwork will open up so many doors and you just have to keep going even if you fall. I am my brand a little Texas girl with a big dream by the way of Chicago. Entrepreneurship is in my blood from my Great grandfather in Gary Indiana to his son my Grandfather who had his own tamale company . I am going to leave my foot prints in the entrepreneur world. My biggest thing if I can do you can too and I’m going to show you how.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to Fort Worth , Tx go see the stockyards , have lunch and be a cow girl for the day , fro bull races to just enjoying the scenery. The next day I would take her to have lunch at Mali Kitchen they have great drinks and a great atmosphere the ribs are on point too. We would go and do a little shopping in clear fork as well , we all love getting a new purse and its always a fun time shopping with your friend. Its now day three time to grab the one you love and lets all go out and have great steak dinner with some great company and good conversation Eddie Vs has the best and its one of my favorite places. I always like to go to Dallas to hear some live music and just to walk around and see the sights Deep Ellum has it all, but you have to go to Uptown Dallas and enjoy the nightlife. I would bringer back the next day to our little family spot where everybody knows your name The Rim at waterside to chill and relax and enjoy a good margarita, til next time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my parents for believing in me when I did not believe in myself. My family has been my number one supporters through this whole process. There are many trials and tribulations that come with starting a business with no roadmap. Im for ever grateful for them always being there pushing me and catching me when I fall.
