Meet Alexandria Mitchell | Fashion Designer & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have wanted to become one of the world’s top designers since I was 12 years old, when I created the name KatLiMartElle, based off my mother and grandmothers’ names. A name meant to stand next to the likes of Versace, Valentino and Chanel. For all these years, the thing that has kept me motivated has been my love for the craft. I love fashion, I love design, fit, art, patternmaking, style, I just really have a love for it. Growing up my parents have always encouraged my brothers and I to do what we love, do what we will enjoy. This is what plays over and over for me and I want to be an example for my son, that everything happens in God’s timing. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been dreaming about something; you can achieve it.
I have a background in Fit and Patternmaking where I have had the opportunity to practice computer patternmaking and virtual fit. The fashion industry contributes to so much waste and pollution and I would like to build a brand that is sustainable, ethical, luxurious, and fashionable. A transparent brand that matches my life and my journey. This technology in the industry will be an amazing opportunity to prevent additional waste while ensuring a more accurate fit for my clients.
As my brand grows and technology progresses, I think this game changer for the industry will benefit my business and give me the opportunity to create my own ideas of technological advances that will ultimately help the environment and change how we do fashion in the future.
In addition to this value that KatLiMartElle will bring to the industry to bring about sustainability, the goal is to also raise awareness for the causes and the charities that are relevant and important to me. Every Mother Counts, March for Babies and The Feed Project are just a few that I will work into each collection or create an event to support.
What should our readers know about your business?
At katlimartelle, we believe in slow fashion – high quality, versatile pieces created to last – versus fast fashion to be discarded in a few months. We focus on trends merging with classic pieces to keep your wardrobe fresh and stylish, so we focus on fashion as an investment. My designs are patterned for each individual client, allowing us to complement and enhance their own personal beauty using 3D technology where I can create a virtual model of the clients measurements. I love to make our clients feel beautiful. Whatever your size or shape, whatever the occasion, well-fitting clothing empowers you to put your best foot forward and inspires confidence. Clothing is an important expression of self, and it’s a privilege to be a part of that journey with them.
I am still on the journey but my experience from college to interning in New York City and all of the different positions I was able to hold gave me nuggets of wisdom along the way and have taught me a lot that I have implemented into my business practices. When you are starting from the ground up, you really have to seize every opportunity to learn something that will ultimately lead you to where you are trying to go on your journey.
My hope is that through my brand and story, people will be inspired and motivated to do whatever that thing is that they are supposed to be and whatever they are called to do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are both super chill, but a few restaurants that I would take my best friend to would be Yardbird downtown Dallas, Cityworks and Benihana in Frisco, and a place I haven’t been but would like to go is STIRR. We would go shopping at Northpark or the Galleria Dallas. Lastly, some fun sightseeing things I would take her to is the Dallas Zoo, the Aquarium in Grapevine, the Dallas Comedy House because we LOVE to laugh, and I would like to see the Alvin Alley Ballet if available, so I would take her there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to first dedicate my Shoutout to God, without him I wouldn’t dream as big or feel that I could actually achieve anything. Next, I dedicate my Shoutout to my parents, who have worked hard to set me and my brothers up for success, instilling in us values and integrity. Last but not least, my Husband and Son, who have given me love and encouragement daily to succeed.
