We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Clair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, why did you pursue a creative career?
Though I was introduced to dance at the young age of three, it became the only way of expression that stayed consistent and constant in my life. To feel at home within a passion, to me, is a rare gift in this life. As the years continued, so did my devotion. I found that live performance reaches individuals in ways most other artistic experiences do not. It’s a profound art; to mend the ability to move one’s body in ways unimaginable to the common human eye, with a marriage to understanding the way music rides its own waves, it’s phenomenal. The offering of vulnerability without speaking a word. I’m in love with it all.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Work ethic and mindset. I strongly believe that hard work pays off, and that timing is everything. I can’t imagine continuing this career of mine without such dedication and commitment. I’ve kept it throughout all the hardships I’ve endeavored; the ongoing rejections, the comparisons. More recently in my life is where I found a shift of mindset and perspective. Releasing the energies and thoughts that beat me down and suffocate my own confidence, how beautiful it is to trust the timing of your own journey. It’s not at all easy, and the work is with immense depth and persistence, but it is entirely worth it. I hope my work and my artistic being is seen and appreciated with honesty and feeling. One thing that fills my heart to brim is speaking with someone who’s been emotionally moved after watching a performance of mine. I can’t express really how delicate and powerful it is to understand and take in. Here’s to the future of things; the unknown is exciting!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh boy well, I’m only back in Texas for a bit after a while gone, so I speak from what I’ve known and loved in years past.. Forever a favorite has been The Wild Detectives; a bookstore and bar in Bishop Arts. I also adore Wabi House, it’s my go-to. I’d encourage anyone to take themselves to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, it is a treasure. There’s so much more!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my mom and dad, honestly. They’ve been nothing but supportive and encouraging throughout my entire career. Through the depth of lows and the beautiful highs, they haven’t left my side and I truly wouldn’t be where or who I am today without their unconditional love. Throughout my training (as a young kid and into my college conservatory days) – there were some cherished mentors and teachers that saw something in me that most never did, and I thank each of them for acknowledging it so I could see and feel it for myself. And to my people, my chosen family, the understanding, support, and excitement we all have for one another is something I hold so close to my heart. I feel very lucky to have such a strong support system, from over oceans and car drives away, thank you.
