We had the good fortune of connecting with Albie Robles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Albie, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Voice acting is actual work. It isn’t just talking into a microphone. It requires training to learn diction, timing, breath control, etc. You have to acquire gear and learn to use it properly. You have to work on setting up a proper recording space. You have to learn to edit and process your audio to very specific standards. Also, voice acting is a freelance job. Most of the job is finding work. You write proposals. You send marketing emails. You look for contacts.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I absolutely love voice acting and narration. My background is in stage and improv. This helps me to bring enthusiasm and mood to whatever I record. What I am currently most excited about is the Scare Me Podcast. I’ve always been a fan of horror in every form. Book, movies, etc. The more it scares me the more I like it. More than anything, I love being told ghost stories. I started to get curious about why that is true for so many of us. Why do we seek out fear? I created the podcast to explore this fascination, and to create an opportunity for guests to scare me with their own personal paranormal experiences. I’ve had some great guests, including Hiro Kanagawa (The Man In High Castle), and Brandon Crane (Stephen King’s It). More info about the podcast can be found at https://scareme.albieroblesvoice.com/.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Klyde Warren Park is in an amazing location right in downtown Dallas, and has some great food trucks worth checking out. Once things are a little better, I look forward to going back to any of the amazing Alamo Drafthouse locations throughout the metroplex. Also, I love Russo’s Coal-Fired Kitchen in Richardson. Amazing Italian food and giant slices of pizza that taste absolutely incredible
