We had the good fortune of connecting with Aimee Cardoso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an oil painter that focuses primarily on still-lives and fabrics. My work contains more traditional techniques as I find most of my inspiration from old masters’ works and scenes in my daily life. I’m proud of the balance I’ve achieved between having a full-time job and having a studio practice, as well as my role in the art scene in Fort Worth and Dallas through numerous non-profits and organizations I’m involved in. Being people-oriented and helping these multiple organizations with educational opportunities, exhibitions, and consulting projects have helped form me into the person and artist I am today. Working with other artists was extremely beneficially and rewarding, as well as having critiques and conversations about not only our artworks, but the role that artists take on in community.
Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are: 1) Don’t take yourself too seriously, 2) Don’t compare your likes to other’s likes on social media, 3) Do not tear yourself down.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely been supported and encouraged by the staff and board of the non-profit Art Tooth. Big hugs to Shasta, Ariel, Eddie, Auriel, and Jonathan for working alongside me the last 5 years. I also want to thank Visit Fort Worth and Near Southside for taking the artists of Fort Worth seriously and being open to partnerships and opportunities.
