We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam “AJ” Jefferson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam “AJ”, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I feel the most important factor behind my success is “word of mouth.” The sharing of the experience of what I do that other people relay is immeasurable.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently a Maintenance Training Specialist for Dallas Area Rapid Transit. I teach transportation mechanics and technicians. I am a Freelance Photographer in my spare time. I am a Retired Navy Veteran with 23 1/2 years of service. I have been employed in my current job for over 30 years. I was able to have 23 1/2 years Navy and 30+ years in doing what I do now by being in the Navy Reserves after an 8-year full-time service career right out of high school. My career has been relatively easy, for me, but some may find what I do and have done, difficult to manage. I have learned to really listen to people before speaking. Cuts down on a lot of misunderstanding.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the Gaylord Texan Resort. The place is incredible because on a rainy day you would never know it because of the indoor area with the massive Skylight ceiling. Lots to see and do. An excellent place for pictures. I would also recommend the Star in Frisco Texas. Home of the Dallas Cowboys practice facility and Cowboy’s History. We could eat at the Star at restaurants like City Works and Mi Cocina’s. All over the Dallas/ Ft. Worth Metroplex
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out to Marvette Washington and Felecia Keel, who would tell me that I should start doing photography for money. I have had a lot of help along the way with “lots” of tutorials, experiments, and trial and error. Being a part of the Inspiring Body of Christ Church, in Dallas, Texas, has also allowed me to have a vast amount of training.
